Citroen debuting Survolt all-electric racecar at LeMans
By Myles Kornblatt

When Citroen first showed off the Survolt all-electric sports car at the Geneva show back in March, we quietly applauded them for at least making an effort to make electric cars cool. Now we may be ready to give a standing ovation.......

.....The Survolt racecar features two electric motors that Citroen says makes 300 hp. The lithium-ion batteries can cover 124 miles and takes 2 hours to recharge with a "specific power supply" (or 10 hours on a 220 volt setup.)

From the pics we've seen its obvious the car has been on a strict diet that has eliminated any unnecessary extravagances, including doors. This starvation and the carbon fiber body has made the racer come in at a featherweight 2535 lbs (i.e. about the same as a Chevy Aveo.) Citroen says the the whole package creates a racer that is good for 0-100 km/h (0-62mph) in under five seconds and a top speed of 162 mph.

Citroen will debut the Survolt this Saturday (July 10th) during the LeMans Classic Race series. Piloting the this eco-racer will be Vanina Ickx - daughter of F1 champion Jacky Ickx and an accomplished racer in her own right....

Electric "cars" are a solution looking for a problem. They have solved three problems so far, so some credit is due:

1 - Electric "cars" have nicely displaced Priuses from being #1 in smugness, traffic-obstruction, and middle-lane&left-lane hogging.

2 - Electric mostly-stationary-boxes-on-wheels are excellent and useful for those who "drive" during stop-and-go daytimes in the Big City.

3 - The Chevy Bolt is super-entertaining to watch winning a 1/16th of a mile "stoplight drag-race" to 49 mph against a GM car with a V8 such as LS3. With toy short-distance golf-carts like the Bolt or Smart-EV, torque at zero RPM is just as fun today as it was with Motorized Lego and Hot-Wheels "Sizzlers" 50 years ago.

4 - Citroens are undeniably cool and nice for barely-identifiable reasons so it is excellent to see Citroen making/racing vehicles whether electric or dinosaur-powered.
