12 million gallons of biodiesel per year from chicken fat

Electricity from poultry fat for Texas

Renewables Corp. has announced that it has begun supplying fuel for the nation's first 100% biodiesel powered electricity generating turbine plant in Conroe, Texas.

The company plans to supply up to one million gallons per month of pure biodiesel, primarily from poultry fat collected from large poultry processing operations throught the country.
The plant, owned and operated by Biofuels Power Corp., will produce electricity for delivery direct to the power grid
Once oil hits $100/barrel, economics will demand that these plants be built all across the South.

Well hopefully the plants will just "smell like chicken" and not like a paper mill........

Why not burn poultry fat and/or turn it into Bio-Fuel?

Something has to be done with it, is it better to bury it in a landfill?

There are many sources of Biomass like Chicken fat and other renderings from processing plants that are now waste problems that can be converted into some type of Bio-Fuel or used on site to power boilers for factory power or electric power generation.

    What kind of paper mill?

I'm pretty sure they're aiming for a cross between free-range and juicy nugget aroma.

The paper mill question was serious though.

But how much chicken scraps can we produce? And how far will it go? Will they hurl the whole chicken in and turn it into fuel?

Not quite. They are turning fat into biodiesel, not ethanol. It's not a matter of anyone being desperate. Rather, it is economics: cars don't know the difference and you can make the stuff more cheaply than making petrol diesel of $88/barrel oil.

If you thing a barrel is expensive now, just wait until the oil sands start drying up. It will easily be double the price.

I wish people would stop harping about the oil drying up. Jesus. Canada has enough oil to supply our needs for the next 30 years without any kind of other imports whatsoever. There's plenty of oil. Oil will be like coal to us long before we run out.

Research before you talk. http://www.SynCrude.CA Alberta has in bitumen alone 315 billion barrels of oil. God.

According to the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board, Alberta's oil sand deposits contain approximately 1.7 trillion barrels of bitumen, of which over 175 billion are recoverable with current technology, and 315 billion barrels are utimately recoverable with technological advances. The Athasbasca Oil Sands Deposit is, by itself, the largest petroleum resource in the world.
