I just got off the phone with GM Performance Parts:

The stock number for the Vibe's Supercharger is:
-12498927.

Retail approx $3000.00 (US)
Dealer anticipates 4-8 hrs labor for install.

***Remember: this is only for the BASE VIBE. It won't be installed (and/or warranted) for the VIBE AWD or GT***

Looks like it's a 30% increase in hp (up from 130 to 169-170hp)
and only a 18% increase in torque (up from 125 to 149-150lb-ft)

Sounds like plenty of scoot for a 2700lb car!

Just remember to get the 5 speed!

Rock on!

I wasn't aware that they wouldn't install it on the AWD. I thought that was kind of the point...

Needless to say, the FWD is still pretty tough in the snow, and the supercharger just makes it better when the weather is nice.

I guess that's why the AWD has less hp from the get-go (125 vs 130). All the extra mechanicals must not be strong enough to handle the extra torque.

As far as the GT, it has that special cam that "let's it rip" after 6000rpm or so, giving you +/- 170hp but the torque stays the roughly the same. I think putting the SC on the GT would probably send a few rods or pistons soaring through the block at 8500rpms and full boost......but it would be really cool for a couple of ripping seconds!!!

Now if we could get the disc brakes all the way around on all VIBES instead of just on the GT we could literally build our own VIBE GXP!!

Cheers!

Side note. GT engine has like an 11.5:1 compression ratio, not conducive to forced induction(usually). Even still, there are companies making forced induction kits for it. I am disappointed that it "can't" be used on the AWD, too. Toyota had an AWD turbo Celica back in the day, it isn't like it couldn't have made another one, they should have or at least GM could have upgraded it or something.

Is this a true "GM performance part" or is it a rebadged TRD Supercharger? I don't recall seeing a TRD supercharger for this engine.

Sadly enough, I believe it was TRD developed. <_<

I was browsing http://www.matrixvibe.net late last night. Good group of people. Anyway, there seems to be a TRD equivalent of the 1.8L supercharger avaliable at your local Toyota dealers.

Evidently will work with AWD. One of the guys on the site has one. It just voids the warranty.

Skyboy is right the compression on the GT is too high for F/I. And for the AWD the components were not made to handle the power, or there would be a GT AWD. (since S/C ~ GT power).

I don't think so.... the GT needs to be rev-as hell to have a similar perfomance than the Supercharged.
Sorry China, we'll buy your disposable electronics and lead coated toys, but when we Americans want a cheap car with horrible quality, we get a Chrysler.
