May 29th, 2020

DETROIT — Customers seeking Buick’s styling and refinement within the industry’s most popular segments will have another fresh choice when the 2021 Envision arrives early next year.

“The all-new 2021 Envision is part of Buick’s strategy to grow its family of premium SUVs,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president, Global Buick and GMC. “It joins the new 2020 Encore GX, which offers safety, functionality and styling tailored around the size and space preferences of today’s small and compact SUV buyers.”

The new Envision will also be purposefully contented with standard active safety technologies, such as:

  • Automatic Emergency Braking*
  • Front Pedestrian Braking*
  • Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning*
  • Forward Collision Alert*
  • Following Distance Indicator*
  • Rear Park Assist*
  • Safety Alert Seat*
  • HD Rear Vision Camera*

Additionally, the new Envision will offer available safety and driver assistance technologies that are important to today’s SUV buyers, including:

Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist*
HD Surround Vision*
Front Park Assist*
Rear Cross Traffic Alert*
Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert*
Head-up Display
Rear Camera Mirror*

“The design of and technology in the all-new Buick Envision are sure to be a hit in today’s growing premium SUV market,” said Helen Emsley, executive director, Global Buick and GMC Design. “The 2021 Envision will be lower and wider, with premium proportions and striking styling designed to combine the expressiveness of a car with the practicality of an SUV.”

Buick’s popular premium Avenir trim will be available on the 2021 Envision for the first time.

The 2021 Envision will also offer Buick’s first available 10-inch diagonal touchscreen infotainment system, and it will include in-vehicle apps, such as Amazon Alexa built-in1, Spotify, Pandora and Fox Sports. Projection features Apple CarPlay2 and Android Auto3 will also be included.

The Envision will be powered by a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbo engine and a nine-speed transmission.

More details for the Envision, including for its Avenir trim, will be revealed later this year.

GM will have to figure out a way to price in the current 25% import tariff on this vehicle. Most 2020 units were imported before the tariff was implemented. Adding the above safety items as standard equipment gives them a huge head start.

Prepare to open your wallet a little wider if you want a new Envision in your driveway.

It's going to be built there.:p:

The Authority guys are saying built in China and E2 platform:

Obviously these decisions were made pre-pandemic. Like others I agree its a good looking vehicle (for a hideous crossover) post-pandemic sales will be interesting.

Interesting, when production is out of North America, my Intel gets fuzzy. I do know right now, we are shipping some of the same parts to China for the Envision, that we ship to Mexico and Canada for the Equinox/Terrain.

(Also WFH for 2 1/2 months doesn't help; I miss a lot of the day-to-day activity and talk.)

Hoping if it is still coming from China, that will change in the 2nd year, like how the Regal was coming from Germany, then moved production to Canada. Buick really needs to watch their pricing as it's inching up and the vehicles aren't necessarily getting better... The sportback was a flop, and to many, not as good as the previous Regal model.... more utility, less luxury, with stripped down base models.

This car can be a homerun if priced right. Build it here!

Gen I Envision was made for China, "bland by design".

Needs to be made "here" now more than ever!

**** tip-toeing ****

Here is an idea, with all the lip-service these Corporate CEO's are giving us this week, build a plant here and hire all the people you claim to care so much about................

IMHO it is a CONTENDER and do NOT really care if it is made in North America OR China as LONG as the "core" and premium stuff is made here
as Buick and the "invasion" will NEVER be a TOP seller OR a TOP money spinner and at the end of the day MORE important for CHINA than USA
