Sad, but they never really tried with this I think. I liked the design and styling of the previous one so much better than this more generic looking one too. Maybe that has something to do with its getting axed.

I like hatches, that would be a cool one, the wagon didn't look right, sat way too low to the ground.

I think the way the cladding was used on it didn't help in making it seem lower to the ground as well.

The Country Wagon / TourX wasn't that high off the ground, it was only lifted about 25mm (1") from the regular Sports Tourer unlike a Subaru Outback which has 50mm (2") lift from the regular Legacy models.

And I believe the Legacy has a more "upright" seating position to start with.

Every time I saw a wagon, I thought of a slammed car, might have partially due to the length (optical illusion), the proportions were off.

The Subaru Legacy wagon was consistent with the Legacy sedan and the Outback was "simply" a lifted Legacy wagon - it wasn't simple at all as the powertrain and suspension are mounted lower down in the Outback and a number of markets didn't get the Outback and Legacy wagon at the same time.

Our TourX has been a good piece. Almost 20k miles. Solid car, quite roomy. Pretty quick, too. Fuel economy is good as well. Many people didn’t know Buick made such a car. It gets quite a few compliments when driving around. Not promoted by GM at all. We’ll continue to enjoy ours while we have it.

Im surprised the US didnt get the V6, the Holden version had it, even though it was not offered by Opel in Europe.

Opel/Vauxhall would have used the 2.8 LP9, rather than the 3.6 LGX, to comply with European emission regulations but Detroit failed to make provision for RHD LP9 when they engineered E2xx and without the RHD Vauxhall sales, Opel couldn't make a business case just for LHD.

The 3.6 LGX is/was available in the Regal GS - no logical reason why the TourX shouldn't have offered it.

That's one more brand that I'll have no interest in. For me, SUVs, crossovers and trucks are absolutely uninteresting. Reading car magazines now, at least American ones takes just a moment any more, at least where new cars are concerned.

I tried the Regal, and liked it. But you can't sell what you don't have, and Regals were thin on the lot here. Now, they're completely non-existent, and a AutoTrader search shows I'd have to go out of state for a Regal Sportback (not interested in the TourX). Suttle's lot is now dominated by SUVs and crossovers, if you're interested in something else, it's on the used car lot.

The Regal, Verano, and the Cascada are all good looking cars IMO. I even toyed with the idea of a Cascada, though I grew up in convertibles and grew to hate the buffeting that coach passengers had to endure.

"Subaru Legacy wagon was consistent with the Legacy sedan" - Yes, I get that, I'm simply saying base sedan for base sedan, the Subie sits in a more upright position, which translates better to the wagon versions.

I think the cladding was to make it look higher off the ground, make it look more like an SUV. Because cars are not good anymore (?).

Re: Buick Regal Is Ending Production

Quite honestly, I don't think there is anything "there" for GM (or Buick) regarding the Regal. It's a German design, built by a German company (Opel) that is owned by a French Company (Poo Joe).

I was considering getting the wagon a couple years ago, but GM was not allowing decent configurations. The wagon (Tour X) was not available with the better motor offered in the Regal GS, and the you couldn't delete the ugly cladding, even though it's sold in Europe without that cladding.

The prior gen GS with the 2.0T wasn't really fast either (like a mid-high 14 second car, watch out for V6 Camrys) but it was a great driving FWD car that I really enjoyed. I got the sense the current gen was softened a bit. Unfortunately they're even more rare than an SS Sedan so I've yet to see one let alone drive one. I will say the previous gen GS still catches my eye when I see one, it was the best looking Buick sedan in a long time and since.
