Buick Enclave most expensive and dead last in C&D comparison

Another example of GM's stratospheric pricing, cheap interior and low feature content bringing up the rear among competitors.

The CX9 is useless, it keeps getting points because of "fun to drive"...that's irrelevant if I have to carry one of my kids on the roof. The Palisade and Explorer ahead of it...that's understandable and some of the cheap complaints...also valid.

BTW...no one will pay $49k for an Essence trim...I bought mine similarly equipped sans the unavailable for the time sport package for almost 10k less.

Brand-new Explorer in fourth. The US manufacturers better step up their game or they’re going to lose the very lucrative big crossover market that’s funding their EV dreams...
Current ride: 2015 Chevy Sonic 1.8L 5sp manual sedan
Previous ride: 1998 Subaru Legacy Wagon AWD 2.2L 5sp manual
Next ride: Maybe a 2020 2.0T CT4, weekend car, keep the Sonic as DD

I'd put it third behind the H/K twins...Have you tried the CX-9s third row?

Explorer dead last in the slalom and in a three way tie for last on the skidpad. Tell me again why it's so great to have RWD in a large crossover?? Telluride ranked on top and Palisade second. They hit a home run in the segment.

True, given GM uses the Kohl's pricing model of ridiculously high MSRPs offset by XX%-off fire sales. Still, those super high MSRPs show up when consumers use sites to research and build vehicles or look at the window stickers on the lot. Those numbers are going to send some consumers elsewhere, especially when they realize the content and trimmings don't warrant the price.

Also, I'll note that the Essence trim on the Enclave isn't even the top-of-the-line model. The Premium FWD trim starts at $51,895. The FWD Avenir starts at $53,800 and has already been cited as not having any content or trim to warrant the premium price. Same goes for the $52,095 FWD Chevy Traverse High Country. Add about $2,000 for AWD and the prices look even more ridiculous compared to the fully loaded and opulent Kia and Hyundai models' pricing and levels of luxury and content.

Stuff like this just makes GM look worse by the day, even to fans of the company.

Cheap bits aside, there isn't a CUV today that'll match the Enclave/Traverse in size v price when you look at the final out the door price. BTW all of the complaints they have are somewhat valid, except the sunroof springy thing, that's a nitpick.

Anyway by making their crossover a half size larger, customers give GM a pass for the sketchy material quality, but since it isn't their money and they don't take discounts into effect...the pubs won't give GM a pass.

Buick is a luxury brand only in the delusional minds of the corporate tools at GM. That is why comparisons like this are even more embarrassing. GM has touted and positioned Buick as a luxury brand, but it is badly outclassed by far less expensive non-luxury competitors.

I still don't get why they keep using base Explorers vs. top trim competitors. Even upgrading to a base Limited trim will be at the same pricepoint and have most if not all of the options standard that they complained Explorer didn't have.

I understand they're trying to compare based upon price, and that top trims of Explorer (ST and Platinum) are more expensive than competitors, but to use the lowest level trim and ignore a trim above that that's the same price with a nicer interior and the options they complain about it not having is biased.

We bought a new Kia Soul a few months ago....at the time the Telluride was just arriving at the dealerships. I sat in one and really liked it...and then I took it for a quick (less than 2 miles) test drive with the salesman.

We got the Soul, not the Telluride...but I liked the Telluride so much that I was trying to convince myself of a way to justify buying it instead. The issue was, the Soul was/is meant to be our family '2nd' car and we wanted something small and good on Fuel...the Telluride..no matter how much I liked it...just didn't fit.

Comparison tests like Car and Driver's use manufacturer press fleet vehicles, and are constrained by what's available in the press fleet at a given time. Perhaps Ford did not have any Explorer Limited models to lend Car and Driver.

BTW, this C&D test did not use a "base" Explorer. XLT is the midgrade trim, although it's priced close to highline trims for some competitors.

I thought of something when I saw his first post: gb2000 = reincarnation of Greg Botts for some reason.

Thanks sdotjeezy, I did just that. I have to give credit to GB2000 though - the entertainment value of post #9 is off the charts.
