Not that it matters, but for a long time I've advocated that all government bureaucracies be disassembled every 20-30 years and built--IF NEEDED--again from the ground up, using mostly fresh talent. Good luck with all that, but sometimes hypotheticals can be fun. And good luck with the fresh talent, talent that's not contaminated by power madness, bribery, threats, promises, all the thousand natural shocks That Flesh is heir to .

In survey science a probability sample is superior to a convenience sample regardless of sample size (so long as the sample is large enough to be statistically meaningful) because a probability sample means that all people in the target population (new car buyers in the US in this case) had an equal chance to be selected to participate. Whereas a convenience sample means only those in the target population who were conveniently contacted had a chance to be selected (in this case, new car buyers in the US who subscribe to Consumer Reports rather than all new car buyers in the US).
For those who don’t understand (or are emotionally motivated not to understand) which method is most scientifically valid, they will, of course, ignore what I just said and choose whatever survey they prefer on an emotional level.
