I wonder if this has anything to do with the rumored Zora mid-engine Corvette?

"Repurpose the C7 platform for mid engine duty". What does this mean?

Its not unheard of. The NSX is based on the Accord platform, just flip flopped.

This is indeed interesting. Maybe the much rumored mid engine design is closer than we think.

The rumors say that they may have a "modular" design that can re-use much of the current C7 architecture for the mythical mid engine Corvette that the rumors of have gotten more persistent on recently...

Many speculate that IF the Corvette goes mid engine, it will do so along side the C7 for several years to "test the water" with appealing to current Corvette buyers while also attracting new buyers. So it would be more economical if the mid engine car could share as much as possible with the current C7.

"$439 million paint shop?" Did they miss the decimal point somewhere there?

EDIT: We're talking Solyndra type money here!

Unless they are really overstocked, I think they are planning something big. I look forward to seeing something very different even though what they make now is great.
