2016 camaro topspeed limited to 85mph due to suspension?

My camaro i just bought has a speed limiter at 85 mph and we have tried everuthing to take it off. The only things we are thinking it could be is my after market suspension. Previous owner put on coilovers and lowering springs. Also it thinks all my tires are flat because the rims it has on it dont accomodate a tps system. Has anybody else run into this problem? Or have any suggestions on how to fix it? Preferably without changing the suspension.

The computer has no idea what suspension you have on. Maybe the TPS, but I doubt it. Did the previous owner put a tune in? You can adjust the top speed with a tune. Maybe they got it wrong. Have you taken it to a dealer?

I would google the camaro sixth gen website...

Those guys will know the answer.

I would say no tire sensors is a big no no and need to be installed.

If you had the mrc shock system and it was removed that could also cause a problem.

Was the car originally equipped with the fantastic mrc shocks?

The vin number would tell at any dealership would tell you the original factory options that came with the car..

Modding a car has its downsides and buying even a cool one as I’m sure yours is can be challenging.

    Is it a turbo 4,v6 or v8?

I think it’s one of the mods that were installed...the camaro6gen site is pretty informative ..

Ask there since so many have experience with your specific generation..

TPMS being out will definitely not give you the speed limited to 85mph warning.

Is it set electronically by the previous owner?

Re: 2016 camaro topspeed limited to 85mph due to suspension?

I am thinking GM put the speed limiter on this. I personally think it is a very bad idea and can be dangerous to put an artificial limit on the top end. My 2014 Silverado had an undisclosed 98 mph speed limit. Once when I was passing a line of cars on a 2 lane road, as I was approaching the final vehicle to pass and an oncoming car was getting close, suddenly the truck lost all power and speed fell back to 92 before power came back. Thankfully some one was courtious enough to let me in or I likely would have hit a car head on

I hope you didn't discover it as well during a time when you needed the higher top end.

The UK market doesn't need/want fixed limiters, even the 155 mph from Germany can be switched out here, but some recent cars have owner-set limits - my 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe had a 118 mph limiter but no problem as it wouldn't go any faster anyway - I can't believe that a Camaro has a fixed limiter set to 85 mph

That wouldn't be a limiter but an overspeed warning yeah?

It's been in every vehicle I've had since like the mid to late 90's

As far as TPMS they're a pain in the arse

    Is it the 1980s again?

I've done wheels and tires myself but would never just leave off the TPMS.
Makes you wonder what other liberties were taken when the mods were performed.

I'd be pretty surprised if a wheel did not support a TPMS module in this day and age. They are basically a valve stem. You might also check that the TPMS is there but a metal cap on the valve is killing the signal.

Lots of tyre shops don't bother putting them back in

Must be an American thing to worry about nanny systems over here we have a thing called a tyre gauge that you can buy and check the pressure in your tyres every now and then

    Its pretty cheap

So you've never gotten a nail between checks I guess? Or if you have RF's you won't even know it is low from appearance and so you may ruin your RF in a weekly check. I still confirm TPMS every couple of weeks to make sure it is correct, but it has saved my bacon twice.

If I get a nail I change my tyre

Happened probably 2 times in 10 years not like its common enough to worry about having a nanny system
