    VF Commodore predictions

What do you think is going to come with the new model?

    My guesses are:
    • Less variants - I think the Berlina and Calais will merge at least
    • A new Red - this is a wild guess but Red Hot has been with us since the VX i.e. 11yrs old.
    • Heated seats
    • Proximity keys

    The media is suggesting:
    • Alloy panels
    • Fuel efficiencies into the low/mid 8's
    • more driver assist technology

    Re: VF Commodore predictions

If they want to get back to 3500 - 4000 sales per month it will need the following at the very least:

    5 Year warranty
    Excellent reliability from the beginning
Quieter interior under hard acceleration.(Gives the perception of quality)(The VE is quite noisy)
Interior design and material quality need to be huge step up
Pricing to be ultra competitive.(similar to current pricing offers with the extra features of VF)
Fuel economy for the 3.0 to be in the low 8's and the 3.6 to be mid to high 8's
The usual new Colour or two
Weight down by at least 80 Kg
The usual extras all manufacturers are doing now even on low end models such as auto headlights and wipers, reverse camera, push button start etc et
    Reduce the number of variants

I think Omega will go Berlina and Calais will remain seperate if Berlina stays at all

Range will start at a new base level higher than it used to be and Malibu will fill the gap price wise that the Omega used to fill

Base cars will get Electric park brake , large touch screen possible reverse camera standard along with more airbags standard

Heated mirrors , seats as you move up the range along with keyless entry/start and adaptive cruise

Value pack safety champion model (like the Acclaim) to have Lane departure warnings rear camera , park assist and keyless entry/start

Anyway thats what i would have it as

    Re: VF Commodore predictions

It's interesting that some of your predictions are already standard on the VEII range. I wonder if there is a perception that the commodore range isn't as well equipped as it actually is. For example auto headlights, large touch screens and dual zone climate control are already standard on the Omega. And you get all the internal safety features on the base model as you'd get on the top of the range (airbags etc).

Heated mirrors, auto wipers, front and rear parking sensors are already available on the Calais V variant.

If one feature is a lot then yeah i guess

Omega is a featureless model very spartan and bland i expect it to be much better equiped in VF

What are you on about.? The only thing not available on the Omega safety wise is a reverse camera and front parking sensors. It has everything else that a Calais V has. The Omega is listed as a base but it really is quite well equipped. I'm sure it will be better equipped come VF (if it still exists) but on the whole and in relation to my major point, it seems people discount how much stuff actually is included in the basic model Commodore these days.

The Commodore has all the acronyms which where regarded some of the best when the VE was released. Also name me 5 cars that have adaptive cruise control, and park assist. They really aren't that mainstream yet.

    Does it have 10 airbags?

    no

Does it have lane departure warnings ?

    no

    Does it have Adaptive cruise?

    no

These are all the things i'm on about packaged together in one model so punters dont have to pony up for a Calais to get the good stuff

Thats what Acclaim used to be when it first came out

It was pretty plain but you had features most other cars called options until that model arrived

I agree. Malibu will be out well before VF and i think will occupy position now held by Omega moving Commodore upwards.
Not sure about success of Malibu at that pricepoint though with 4cyl only. Should have a 3.0 at least.

Does it need 10 airbags? Lane departure warnings and adaptive cruise aren't available on any Holden and is actually still a non-standard optional extra on even the Merc E class. I think we're getting a bit ahead of ourselves.

    Did acclaim need 2 or 4 ?

Remember in the mid 90's not many cars had them at all and they were the preserve of Mercedes along with ABS and traction control and EBD ect ect that has filtered down to poverty models

Holden leads (or used to ) in safety in this country and should lead the way with new innovations in this class
Right now it seems Toyota is leading as Camry has half the things i just mentioned in the Camry and Aurion right now

I think Omega will stay, but built to order only. This gives Holden a fleet car for those that won't buy Malibu because it is an import. Omega also gives Holden a car to base advertising of a low entry price, low fuel use in 3.0 form etc.

I think that Berlina will either go to be replaced by a Calais with delete option 3.0, or remain as identical to Calais in look and equipment except for the 3.0. I'd choose the former.

I hope the V badge goes, use it ( or something else ) as an option pack but SS and Calais are fine as top badges as they are. Caprice as per Calais comments, except the 3.0.

You never know when you look at the specs of a Berlina and Calais the only big difference is the engine there is not much difference as far as features.
I know lots of guys that use to buy V8 Berlinas when you could get them because of the trim levels being similar the didn't have to pay the extra bucks for a Calais.
They do need an Omega as an entry level, but the malibu gives Holden the opportunity to move the Commodore more up market can't see why they can't just have Omega SV6 SS and Calais as the line up.

I agree, just add Caprice on top. 4 Commodores and one Statey ( couldn't resist ) leaves room to roll in an Equipe or International every 6 months or so.

Has Red Hot seriously been out since the VE was released? Wow. I think Sizzle is a much nicer shade of red.

I've actually seen a couple of VE SV6's in something similar to the Tiger Micra paint running around town in the last day or so. I don't know if it's a test paint or something.

Red Hot's been around since 2001. Was the orange colour like this?

This is Wildfire and came out for the MY2009 range.
