It could use better packaging and that seems like a recipe for heat soak
Maybe they used the locally produced motor.
Rich2k is correct. The motor is an L27 90deg 3.8l V6 from VN2-VR. They were very similar to the original 3800 LN3 in VN1. VS-VY L36 Ecotec2 was a revised block with shorter deck, not much heavier than the Alu LY7 60deg 3.6l V6.
I built, tune and steer this car. Its an L36/L67 3800 motor from VS-VY Commodore, same as the US pontiac GP. It dont suffer at all from heat soak.
Intake temps with just water no ice, in the tank sit on 16C and I switch on the pump pre burnout and it drops to between 2C and 8C. Across the line they get to 12C.
I only started tuning the car the night before this pass at the track. This was only its 2nd full pass with the new setup and its never seen a dyno.
Will be out again soon to turn her up.
Interesting stuff. Makes sense to go with the Ecotec2 L67. Stock compression? What rear end, 9"? With forged internals you'll make plenty of power given sub [email protected] Potential for better given [email protected]/8 distance. As an aside, it was put to me that the Ecotec1 L27 block is much stronger than Ecotec2 L36.

The later motor has deep skirts and cross bolted mains like an LS. I like the shorter deck height. I spin it to 7700 and it don't seem to phase it at all. Stock M78 borgwarner rear end with a full spool and billet axles, suspension is stock. I put boost in progressivly to get her down the track. Any more than 10psi out the hole and it just hoses the tyres so I stage boost. Compression is 8.8:1 .Yeh I hadn't had much time to tune it. With more seat time it will go pretty quick. It went 5.13 the night before with a bit in it but I got out after an intercooler boot came off. Im a bit worried about the block being basicly stock aside from piston/rods.. Not sure how much I want to put into it... Will be as careful as I can be with tuning and see how she goes.
