Opel/Vauxhall to end Holden supply in 2-3 years

    https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/i...-revival-plans

New Opel/Vauxhall CEO states that supply to Buick and Holden will end in 2-3 years.

That's consistent with rumours that the present Insignia/Commodore will be canned instead of a mid-life facelift.

    Great news for Holden then

    Aussie 2018 Sales
Holden, slumped from fourth place in 2017 to sixth in 2018 as its sales plummeted 32.7 per cent, to 60,754 units, as it struggled to get to grips with life after manufacturing.

Its market share of 5.3 per cent was its worst since the Holden brand was launched in 1948.

The Holden Commodore – once Australia’s best-selling car – achieved just 9040 sales in 2018, down 61.8 per cent.

This is consistent with the contract that Holden had with OPel for supply from the very start

ZB was always meant to be supplied till ~2023-24MY

Hopefully dump them into the sea where they belong.

Man what a slap int e face to loose the RWD Commodore and get this current mess in its place with GM acting like "Oh this car is a great replacement, if not better!".

When is Toyota going to resume Australian manufacturing?

The original supply stream forecast was too high and exceeded demand

MIdsizers and full size sedans are tanking badly so the new Holden MD haulted production until the refresh
(yes there is a refresh) production starts up again soon

It should be noted that Holden sell more ZB than any other car in it's class

Don't think they could economically. Most of the equipment they had and their sub-contractors had has been sold off.

So Holden can vary production quantities but Opel can't? That sounds a typical GM one-sided contract.

It was likely signed before the buyout

Indeed it was already in place before the takover - PSA wants to end it as soon as possible which implies it's not a profitable arrangement to Opel.

The refresh is scheduled for January 2020. Holden may drop it by then. They halted Commodore production last year, and it's yet to resume.

Correct. PSA have decontented the car to such an extent that people will simply stop buying them. Besides they can't have the GM Insignia compete with the new 508.

BTW, I hear the first casualty will be Astra wagon - the plant is rumoured to close by Christmas.

I saw a Commodore wagon last week that was dark metallic brown. I wonder whether it was a wrap? It looked very nice compared to the boring silver/grey.

Possibly the "Macadamia" on this UK site https://www.carwow.co.uk/blog/vauxha...-colours-guide
