    So what could this be?

Wheels posted this today with a headline that it's possibly the 2021~2022 Ford Ranger/VW Amarok

I'm not convinced thinking it's way too early for that but maybe its the new Mid Size Ram?

    Dakota?

There is apparently one coming ?

Anyway it certainly looks interesting whatever it is

You'd have to ask yourself - why would an FCA prototype be in Melbourne?

As for being too early, you may remember when Wheels on their magazine's front cover featured those 100% accurate 'scoop' pictures of the finalised 1988-intro new-gen EA Falcon in all its beauty, even before the preceding '85 XF Falcon model was introduced..

I'm leaning more towards the 2021 Ranger now and that this is a Full size clay or some such model used for styling clinics or similar

That would explain the blacked out windows and no mirrors

It doesn't really strike me as a photograph of a truck, but rather a photograph of a computer generated image of a truck. If that is the next ranger:

It reminds me of the Honda Ridgeline.

It's definitely a touched up photo but a real photo nonetheless

I guess FCA toy with the idea of a "Ram Dakota" smaller than the 1500 would be better suited for RHD markets. If it's not the "Ram Dakota" then, could it be the next-gen Nissan Frontier or Toyota Tacoma aka Hilux?

Btw, does Holden Special Vehicules still bring the Ram Down Under?

ASV (walkinshaw owned company) imports the Ram and converts them locally

Navara and Hilux have not long been upgraded I doubt its either and the pictured vehicle has a very Ford look to it

I thought maybe Ram Midsize however like I say i'm more leaning towards a Ford product the more I look at it

Would be interesting if the Bronco gets this face now wouldn't it?

.....As the publication points out, the truck shares design cues with the 2020 Super Duty that was unveiled a few weeks ago. This truck appears to have a similar grille setup, C-shaped headlights, square foglight housings, and two-tone split rear bumper. From the front, this truck looks like an F-Series, but the proportions look closer to those of the midsize Ranger. The pictures were taken just this week in an outer Melbourne suburb, according to Wheels Magazine. It looks to us like the truck was being positioned for a photo shoot, judging by the lighting and the wheel dolly visible on the right front wheel. The background has been masked to hide the location, and our photographers detect some Photoshop touch-up throughout the images. Wheels Magazine believes this may be a clay model based on the blacked-out windows.

Re: So what could this be?

I get a very CHINESE vibe from it more than a FORD vibe ford does NOT use "wide fenders" outside of the raptor
the F150 / superduty are very flat down the sides

I would expect the RAM to be a mini-me 1500 and that does NOT look like a RAM 1500 at all the nose is to flat and again the fenders + lower detailing is more GM then FORD/FCA
I get a slight SIERRA vibe from it and ridgeline vibe

it is a nice looking thing

As nota pointed out there doesn't seem to be much point of a Chinese or some other company importing a clay model for clinics in Australia

    Not impossible but unlikely

Re: Is This the Next Generation Ford Ranger?

I actually just double-checked and I can’t seem to find a thread on this specific subject. No worries though, I’m sure a moderator will clean it up either way so the discussion can move on.

While we wait. this is an interesting leak because it definitely indicatess that the next gen Ranger program hasn’t been delayed at all and that we should still expect, barring changes, for the current gen Ranger to only be on the American market for approximately two years at this point. In turn that should mean that this generation of Ranger will be the only vehicle North America ever gets based upon the current T6 platform as the due date for the new Bronco and the next generation Ranger are roughly on par now that Bronco is rumored to have been delayed again.

Speaking specifically to the photos. This is a good looking truck that fits in well with the current Ford truck design theme. Definitely, in terms of appearance, this is a much more sophisticated design than any previous generation of Ranger.
