New V8 Ute platform pushed back to 2018

New V8 Ute platform pushed back to 2018

The V8 Ute Racing Series will continue with its current Ford Falcon and Holden Commodore-based equipment until at least the end of 2017 following delays developing its new platform.

Originally the category had planned to introduce new generation SUV-based Utes in 2016 as a replacement for the Ford and Holden vehicles which have formed the base for the series since its inception.

An option for a further three-year deal from 2018 onwards has also been tabled which will see V8 Utes hold the exclusive rights to run a new SUV Ute platform, which must be production based.

“We will run the existing platform for another two years and during that time we hope to develop a new SUV platform to launch in 2018,” category manager Bill West told Speedcafe.com.

    That was the plan...

Current Hilux/ Navara/ Ranger/ Colarado chassis with a control V8 to allow a transition between the VE/ FG utes and new category, then the introduction of turbo diesels for racing. A control donk available in diesel form.

The question is how relevant the category becomes. I'd prefer them to open the category to allow the use of any ute shell produced in the last 20 years and use parity systems similar to GT racing.

May as well put a cardboard body on a chassis with a V8 in it. That is effectively what the Supercar series is now, at least the utes look the same size as actual utes.

Can the Colorado truck platform be lowered/modified to make for a viable Ute production replacement?

V8 Utes are being run by CAMS after the previous management has been wound up http://www.speedcafe.com/2016/02/04/...pany-wound-up/ The next gen utes were going to utilise a single control space frame similar to V8 Supercars but apparently is too expensive, so likely to see the series diminish until they work out a new attack plan.

Re: New V8 Ute platform pushed back to 2018

When the utes first started appearing they were a 'fun' category (much like Aussie Racers were, but let's not go there). Over powered, with questionable rear traction. 'Gentleman' racers. A spectacle...

The category became more serious. The VE showed utes could get the power down. Parity was introduced to make the Ford and Holden more similar (performance and handling wise). Drivers saw it as a stepping stone in their driving careers, heading towards a (V8)Supercar drive. It started to loose the spectacle aspect and become another race category.

Now they are going to base it on crewcab utes. There will be even more parity and control parts. They're even talking control motor.

The spectacle will be further diluted. Can you see where its going to end up?
