New Buick LaCrosse hints at next Holden Commodore

General Motors has unveiled a sleek new luxury sedan that will form the basis of the Holden Commodore of the future. Just don't expect a V8.

The new Buick LaCrosse luxury sedan has the same underpinnings and body structure as the 2018 Holden Commodore, which will be imported once the Adelaide production line closes in late 2017.

While the bodywork will change slightly, the Buick is the clearest indication yet as to what the first imported Commodore will look like, including the long sleek body, hoop-shaped roof, large grille and tapered headlights.

General Motors executives stopped short of declaring the Buick as the next Commodore, but did admit that the all-new architecture (car jargon for the underbody and the shape of the body structure) would form the basis of the next Commodore.

Hopefully it is standard AWD, no just FWD, I think this sucks for down under.....will be a Sales disaster in Australia, better change the name IMO! Can't understand, I thought Chevy/Holden were to become twins, so I guess its going to be Buick/Opel/Holden....

I figured they would give you guys some sort of Alpha product...guess not.

Its a nice looking car, I just don't see Commodore

Wow, a sales disaster. Bit dramatic are we.

Typically overstyled and overwrought americana compared to the beautifully clean and balanced VE design.

You can see how the dreadful high and rising beltline obliged the stylist to slap on that absurd rear-quarter feature line (Mazda RX4 anyone?) in an attempt to try and break up the comically deep side panels - just awful

The Holden/Chevy tie up is going away. The Buick/Opel/Holden alignment does make sense. Most of Holden's future lineup will be supplied by Opel. Plus add in the current strong Opel & Buick connection.

There has been some hints and comments from some GM/Holden people that Holden will get a V8 rwd performance car (doubtful Camaro or Corvette). I thinking it could be an Alpha/ATS Couple variant.

Ok - makes sense where? From here in the US it may seem to but, if those in the target market don't agree - the product won't sell...

Australians buy more "hot" cars than anyone else. The Germans don't even bother to send their more vanilla examples because they know they rust on lots. Commodore itself sells 40% V8.
So why on earth would Holden replace a highly respected sporting sedan with this nondescript piece of forgettable fluff? RIP Holden.

Meh. The Avalon and subsequent Aurion have not been big sellers. This LaCrosse is nicer than those vehicles, but with the same sorts of limitations. I don't see it returning to the success once seen by the Commodore. Plus I assume the Caprice is going to be gone? We don't even talk about that.

The "large" sedan market in Australia is heavy decline, and it's not just the fault of the consumers.
