    Just for Holden fans; GTR-X

I did a little re-imagineering on the Australia Day holiday weekend...

    Torana GTR-X 2+2 and Ragtop.

For those who don't know the Holden Torana GTR-X of 1969...

Love it. I don't know that it would work in the flesh, the rear is probably too angular, but I still love it.

Channels one of my favorite ever cars, E-Type ragtop.

This feels very Jaguar XKish in many ways, and I wonder if that was the basis for your design?
I want a car so violent that the mere thought of full throttle would cause a heart attack. That actually going wide open throttle in would result in nothing less than instant death!

The first photo is a real car, the stillborn Torana GTR-X. Monaro has just modernised it.

I know that it is a real car, and I only wondered if the basis for his modernized variant was in fact the Jaguar XK.

That ragtop for the chop was pinched off a V12 E-type... talk about imprinted image memory!!!

And the curve of the roofline of the GTR-X, especially when extended for a 2+2 has that E-Type curve to it. Maybe it should have a rear side-opening door like the XKE rather than a liftback?

I always also got a bit of an Aston Martin Ogle vibe from the GTR-X.

I forget how much non-Australian GMI-ers know about Australian motoring history !

Actually, unlike the cut-off short rear of the GTR-X, because of the extra length in this versions rear, it could and would curve in - in plan view - (like the Jag does) for a narrower taillight strip. Curving the rear panels into the rear would soften the angularness quite a bit

Now I see why my imprinted image memory lead me to believe that certain XK elements were present in this design. I have a bit of past experience with the XK, and I find it to be one of the most breathtaking modern cars of any make.

Besides the top actually being from an E-Type, I think a lot of it has to do with proportions and stance...

I'm not much for the character line kicking up behind the doors. I like the stem to stern horizontal line on the original.

    So this? I like both.

    What do others prefer?

BTW. I also did these in the original white - here with and without character line kickup...

Yep, I like them a lot better without the kickup.

What wheel size are those? They look a little large to me. I think I'd go a couple inches smaller on those, too. Oh, and aluminum slot mags, please!
