Alpha+ based 2017 Holden Ute Range

    Alpha+ based 2017
    Holden Ute Range

In another thread we have been discussing if the Commodore after VF will be shared with an Alpha+ RWD/AWD Chevy Sedan.

I propose that if it is, then Holden will want a Ute off it. And I can't see why Chevy would not want a new El Camino either, as it would help CAFE if some owners moved from large trucks to a lighter more fuel efficient El Camino... With extra volume of the US it would be possible to bring back the Crewman and 1 Tonner trayback. And AWD and maybe a SWB 4x4..

BTW. The chop started as a Chevy Malibu.

I guess when the front wheels are near the wing mirrors then the lights are right there

I like everything except the short tray 4 x 4

    It looks out of proportion

Totally agree the short tray 4 x 4 looks weird to me, I love the crewman though must have more rear leg room and a better back seat then the old crewman.

With the short tray replaced by a short style-side box the color makes the proportions look better even though it's the same proportions, i.e. same wheelbase, and the back is even shorter...

Below the old over the new shows that, while shorter overall than the old crewman, the new crewman's body is a few inches deeper (taller, lower floor) and a few inches longer in the rear cabin.... And because the front cabin is also a few inches deeper, allowing front passengers to sit more upright, they take less legroom - leaving more for the rear. So I'd say the rear has 2 inches more headroom and 3-4 inches more legroom.

Of course while the SWB drop side tray may not look the best, it's in the range for it's utility. A hard working farm vehicle for slippery steep hill country, or the forest service on fire trails etc.

When you see it at an angle you understand they don't go back so far... they end at the top centre of the front wheels...

Apart from leg room the big prob with the old crewman is the seating it the back was too upright. We were thinking of getting one years ago when we got our old VYSS and the back seat of the crewman was the reason we got the sedan instead of the crewie.

That was because the front seats had too much recline to allow taller people under a lower roofline and too little recline in the rear for want of space. By allowing taller people in front more head room they don't have to recline the seats to fit taking up space in the rear, and the front seat bases mount higher allowing more rear foot room and a higher knee bend point in front for more front leg room - allowing the front seat to be set further forward. The net effect of all that is the back seat gets more head height, more leg and foot room, AND more recline. It's all about incremental packaging changes that can add up to a lot...

That's why I'm liking your chop it's looking like there's effort been put in for rear seat passengers, not sure about the front end though assuming its the same as your sedan chop.

Yeah i think the front is a little soft and feminine for me

Kind of how a FG Falcon looks soft but a VE looks tough
