    VFacts June 2019 Australia Sales

Worst June result since 2012 sees Australian market enter second-half of the year stuck in a slump

    Mike Costello - Senior editor

    https://www.caradvice.com.au/771104/...sales-figures/

Regular number-one Toyota sat atop the charts with 21,200 units, enough for 18 per cent market share despite a sales dip of 8.5 per cent.

Mazda (10,806, down 13.3 per cent), Hyundai (10,001, down 4.2 per cent), Mitsubishi (8891, down 13.1 per cent) and Kia (7200, up 1.9 per cent against the grain) made up the rest of the top five spots.

Rounding out the top 10 were Ford (7155, down 4.5 per cent), Honda (6232, down 11.1 per cent), Volkswagen (5793, down 8.5 per cent), Nissan (5514, down 16.5 per cent) and former favourite Holden (4817, down a whopping 34.8 per cent).

There were some bright spots among the gloom. China’s MG jumped into the top 20, beating Lexus and Renault, to amass 1014 sales (up three-fold). Skoda grew by 34.7 per cent to 865 units, Volvo by 23.6 per cent to 795 and Porsche 15.4 per cent to 456.

Other good performers included LDV (803, up 30.4 per cent), Peugeot (383, up 6.7 per cent) and Haval (up more than three-fold to 186).

Ford still heavily reliant on Ranger

Not much of anything else sells

I like that Equinox numbers are climbing for Holden and I understand that Acadia is constrained by supply

    Biggest disappointment is Colorado/TRailblazer

Solid vehicle often named in top 2 or 3 in comparison tests but sales just not there

Re: VFacts June 2019 Australia Sales

Just to put a little perspective on how low Holden has fallen:

    Hyundai i30 3343
    Toyota Corolla 2911
    Kia Cerato 2832
    Mazda 3 2533

This is just in one month.

During 2019 calendar year Holden is on track to "produce" less than 2500 Astra hatches, and less than 1900 Commodore/Calais hatch/wagon. Commodore sales numbers above simply indicate that Holden is still clearing heavily discounted old stock.

The guys in Rüsselsheim are very flexible and are trying to help Holden in any way they can, but they just keep scratching their heads and asking "WTF do GM even bother". Apparently Buick Regal's sales performance is even more dire.

seriously, Holden could have done VF3 with DI 6.2, and V6 with 10AT and still got much better sales, a peanuts on pounds investment

What is it about Mondeo that people don't like? Too boring maybe? No real evidence of a sporty option?

Same question with the Astra. It should be selling really well, based on capability. Holden still have an ill-will mountain to climb I guess.

    Wow Colorado 4x2 is awful!

Mondeo does not have good reputation. The parts are expensive and servicing is not cheap from what I have been told by the mechanic that look after my Ford -he hates them. I have also heard that there is a problem with the stop/start and the air con but I haven't tried to see if that is common or not as the car doesn't interest me.

Colorado is doing well in the 4x4 segment, often a top 3. I reckon they should introduce V6 petrol in the 4wd segment and 4 cylinder petrol in 4x2 to target the big 2wd sellers. These are already produced in Thailand.

I know no one buys petrol, but I think that could change and I also think it would be a very good point of difference against many similar products and will get attention.

Trailblazer needs a 2wd $36,990 version to get bums on seats.

Spark should return in Activ crossover version.

Commodore needs complete spec realignment - trim the models, beef up the equipment (LED headlights and adaptive cruise across the range).

Equinox should be streamlined make 1.5 FWD and 2.0 AWD as drivetrains across the range and no longer offer the 2.0 FWD.

Holden just needs to chase volume and no longer obsess over high margin products.

I would also target big fleets Commodore wagon with Telstra and introduce a emergency/police pack on Equinox 2.0 AWD and Acadia.

Holden also need to start discussing future produce plans, release teaser images etc. I know Holden "does not comment on future product plans" but they need to look like they have a plan and are looking forward.

    They need a halo car

If Corvette comes - even though not badged as a Holden it gets buyers into showrooms

Still too much Ill will around over the sale most buyers are just ignoring anything with a Holden badge at the moment

Yeah you are spot on. Still think Camaro and Silverado should of been badged as Holdens. Would of done wonders to have good unique vehicles come in under the Holden banner. I bet they would sell better too due to the private-import vibe the Chevy badge has here. Holden could also push the local parts content and jobs story about the re manufactured cars, which I think Holden needs to be associated with considering its a uniquely Australian brand.

Should have called it a HSV GTO and stuck a different nose on it...

Personally I think it's nuts that the Silverado and Camaro have to be converted. Putting a Holden badge on that, I don't think would have been a solution. No slant against the team that do the conversions. I've sat in a couple and they have done a ****ing stellar job. For me, to infer that something modified in an external facility, post production, is an Australian Holden product would be somewhat disingenuous.

In other news, I wouldn't be disappointed if an Omega based something from Lansing should come over here as a Statesman/Caprice...

    <edit> ooh, ooh, a Statesman DeVille </edit>
If only there was a way to build them right hand drive at the factory

I fantasize that one day GMNA will finally work out how to design cars that are ready to be built in either LHD or RHD but I doubt it will happen.
