The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 has officially landed on Australian shores thanks to Holden Special Vehicles.

HSV confirmed the arrival of the 2019 Camaro range to the Land Down Under in early March and has now revealed that the local ZL1 is rated at 640 hp (477 kW) at 6400 rpm and 650 lb-ft (881 Nm) of torque at 3,600 rpm. Those familiar with the ZL1 will know that the U.S. model has 10 hp more, but the exact same torque figure.

Holden Special Vehicles recently started local re-manufacturing of the Camaro ZL1 at its production facility in Victoria. Local pricing for the car starts at AU$159,990.

what sort of price are European "super sedans" OR porsche 911's down under?
I know EVERYTHING has a bigger price tag then America so it might NOT be so bad in context

This will make quick work of a lot of cars, European or otherwise. Considering the low volume RHD market, the price is fair, it seems

Let me check. The natural competition would be the Mustang, but the top model in Oz right now is the Bullitt. Stats are 345kW/556Nm, but for only AU$90K. Until the GT500 comes out, we have to find another close competitor. So, how about the 911? Looks like 515kW for the GT2 RS all for *checks CarSales Australia* whew, AU$700K! Ok, let's try the 911 GT3 RS. It has 383kW for *drumroll please* AU$460K. I could keep going until we find a Porsche being sold in Oz that is around that price, but we'd be looking at a model with half the power. Some people might not care about that because "it's a Porsche". Those people want the aura, not the power.

I just did a price check and the exchange rate has got us again. A 911 GT3 RS starts at AUD693,000 now for a private buyer. Seems my nephew got a "bargain" with his GT2!!!!

I think the price is fair considering what HSV have to do to convert them

Would be better if it was a factory RHD model then we wouldn't get raped

Re: Australia's RHD Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Pumps Out 640 HP, Costs AU$160,000!

It was pretty decent of Holden to work with HSV and allow access to GM engineering and OEM parts suppliers to assist with the RHD remanufacturing process. HSV has previously reported that it has lowered 2SS camaro changeover to RHD from 130 man hours down to 60-70 man hours.

If people are willing to pay those prices and a decent deposit to secure, then HSV should have enough volume to organize a decent discount on bulk supply.

Good on them, CKD was out of the question so this is the next best logical step.

Mind you, a brand new RHD Mustang can be had for AUS $65K and add a $30K Rousch blower and let's go play.. Unfortunately PP2 and its wider tires and track require reapproval by Ford, something they still haven't done...

Ahh getting F#cked over for cars, the pastime of those in Aus & NZ (well more so NZ but hey) , at least we can buy a nearly new (under 100km) LHD for a bargain ? $134000. 2018 for $119800 current shape looks like the best 'new' for your dollar.

    Euro LOL on those prices.

    The ute's gone. Something Germ

Re: Australia's RHD Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Pumps Out 640 HP, Costs AU$160,000!

Just over 3 years ago I got rid of the Redline ute and went VW. 30K bought me an excellent vehicle with some nice touches and reasonable performance.

As the three years are up I looked to see what I could replace it with. To get something similar I'll need 45K.

This is the real cost of losing our manufacturing capability. 45K would get you V8, big brakes, and sports suspension. Now it gets you a vanilla, small capacity turbo, with as much enjoyment as grocery shopping...
