    Tokyo 2013: Toyota FCV Concept

Toyota's Hydrogen Powered FCV Concept Offers a Futuristic Glimpse at 2015 Production Model
    NOVEMBER 05, 2013
    Carscoops

Toyota has us really confused with its FCV concepts and the hydrogen fuel-cell powered production car it will lead to with a launch "around 2015". On one hand, last week, it showed prototypes of a camouflaged FCV prototype that strongly resembled the Toyota Sai / Lexus HS250h twins, and now, it has unveiled a new concept that looks far more conceptual than the original FCV-R study from 2011…

The new FCV Concept that will be displayed at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show later this month, has a different and seemingly less production ready design than the previous study – it even lacks exterior mirrors, replacing them with cameras and screens.

It has also grown in dimension with the new FCV measuring 4,870mm long (+35mm), 1,810mm wide (+20mm) and 1,535mm high (+25mm), while the wheelbase is 2,780mm or 80mm longer than that of the 2011 FCV.

The front end is possibly the ugliest Toyota design yet.

    Where's GM's?

I hope they're not just waiting around for Toyota to pull of another Prius on them.

    Toyota: We do ugly right.

Problem with fuel cells & hydrogen is no filling stations. Until someone goes and drops stations around North America it's all a pointless exercise. It's something that Musk understood with the Tesla: you need charging stations, otherwise it's just a cool toy.

So do I worry GM might miss the boat on fuel cells? Nope. Because there's simply no infrastructure for the cars. It's why Voltec remains the right interim solution for an all-purpose vehicle.

Sadly, hydrogen will remain "next year" for a long time, much like "Linux on the desktop". Something people talk about all the time but never transpires.
"Christians should not hold dumb opinions about the natural world based solely on misreadings of the Bible, especially opinions that can be demonstrably falsified by Reason, lest the Faith be subject to ridicule and mockery." -- St. Augustine of Hippo.

Re: Tokyo 2013: Toyota FCV Concept

And what's wrong with at home hydrolysis?

Heck why not just put a small hydrolyzer on the car itself, so all a customer needs to do is plug the wire and put the hose in. FCV also stores more energy than current gen batteries, so doing this routine 1nce a week instead of everyday more than pays off the hassle of having to stick a water hose in.

Actually GM thought the same way too about EV. But then came along Tesla... and all GM had in response is the ELR. The crampy, FWD, sans IRS, cruze based, $70k Cadillac coupe. Snort* Snort* Chuckle*. May be if it came with Mr. Fusion, they'd have a shot... but until then.

I like how the rear quarter panels would deflect air flow over the wheel well openings.

    Ugh!!
Pony Car: an affordable, compact, highly styled car with a sporty or performance-oriented image and an available V8.
