Hot Wheels Edition Camaro is an Instant Classic: 2012 SEMA Show

Chevrolet might have known it had a winner on its hands last year when it unveiled the “Hot Wheels” edition Camaro, or maybe not, but this year the automaker will release the car as a limited-run package.

Whatever the real reason is, production will officially begin in the first quarter of 2013 on the car you see here. After that, there will be a short production run where Chevrolet will build as many cars with the $6,995 package as customers request. Perhaps the most exciting thing about the car is that GM isn’t limiting which versions of the car can carry the package – at least not very much.

Customers can choose between a coupe or convertible and between the V6 or V8 engines. The more specialized cars like the ZL1 and COPO, understandably, won’t be offered in Hot Wheels trim.

So what does the trim package include? Apart from the obvious blue paint, buyers also get special 21-inch “red line” wheels, Hot Wheels badges on the exterior, a matte black racing strip and even the spoiler from the ZL1. Finally, the rear quarter panels also get the Hot Wheels “flick” flame logo.

Inside, the car comes with black leather upholstery and red stitching as well as the Chevy “MyLink ” infotainment system as standard equipment. As a final finishing touch, the seats are embroidered with the Hot Wheels logo.

    Video available at link.

Not worth the $7K price tag in my opinion. But if someone wants to blow their own money, more power to them.

I do like the color, styling and wheels. Take off the Hot Wheels badges and about $4K off that price and it would make more sense to me.

For $7K, I kept thinking I was missing something from the equipment list like "twin turbochargers" or "Voltec hybrid drive."

Basically you're getting badges, leather seats, spoiler, stripe and wheels.

And for 7k you could nearly go from a base model to an SS.

$7,000? Is that a misprint? 1LE costs half that, and gives a lot more. The whole "Hot Wheels Camaro" is the COOLEST idea, but good LORD that price is over the top.

    Jebus Cripes!

Have any of you seen the vehicle on the left in this picture? This looks great! If GM made a vehicle like this it would be epic! (To me of course since I lived through the 1970's.)

Does anyone know the name of that model? If there are any body reproductions of this model, I'd want it!

EDIT: lol, I just saw it's a first generation Camaro. Amazing, it's the best-looking one of all to me. I disagree with Jaguar claiming they were playing it safe for a long time with their designs. I think they were going way better with their old XJ design than BMW has done with their designs lately.

The wheel package alone runs about $5000 on other Camaros. Still, a bit steep to get a cool color and some nice body trim. I really like the blackout between the tail lights - would do that if I had a Camaro...

There's another Camaro that caught the attention on this side of the Atlantic. A Lingenfelter Camaro.

I'm all for it, if there is a market for it have at it GM. What I love about the Camaro is that you can have so many themes and versions and people will flock to it. Just like Ford does with their mustang.

Re: SEMA: Hot Wheels Edition Camaro is an Instant Classic

Turns out the other one shown is a sort of reproduction of a Hot Wheels model of a 67 Camaro. I don't know if they were considering production. But, if it had regular headlights (round), no square things on the hood and no side mufflers, I'd want one. This is assuming of course that it would ride like a real car. The description I read was that it was a modified version of a Hot Wheels model. Difficult to say how it would ride.
