LOS ANGELES - Today Chevy took the wraps off of two new versions of the Sonic subcompact, the Dusk and RS Sedan. While the RS sedan is simply the sedan version of the hatch that has been on sale for a year, the Dusk is a new appearance package offered on the sedan only.

The lack of available colors on the RS sedan is disturbing. How can they not offer it in a red? The dusk looks nice.

With no significant power boost this was an enormous waste of resources and time. Pricey cosmetic trim levels have historically not done well.

While I'll agree it should have a power upgrade the current car with no cosmetic upgrades is #1 in it's segment with a Bullet. Chevy should upgrade the power with The Stage kit for free or at least just make the upgrade the standard fair

IMHO, cosmetic trim is all that GM is *brave* enough to attempt...all else (real handling/performance) seems to be damned (echos of the 1960's?)!

I like them both. I think I'd have a hard time choosing between the two, though the more "grown up" part of me prefers the Dusk.

GM is targeting tuner car enthusiasts with the RS. Why would GM spend the resources when those customers are just going to void the warranty?

Not sure how total sales are but every other Cruze I see on the roadways is an RS.

The RS sedan looks good, but the Dusk is still preferable to me. Keeps the 40 mpg rating, looks good inside and out.

Not a good indicator, RS means different things for each. It's an inexpensive option package on most Cruze trims rather than the single most-expensive trim level. A Cruze 1LT RS is about the same MSRP as a Sonic RS, for that matter.

Re: Live Shots: 2014 Sonic Dusk, Sonic RS Sedan

I have to say GM is probably playing the Sonic right. Just like the GMPP turbo kit for the Solstice, Sky, and HHR, they can make a buck or two off of GMPP kits for the Sonic. Honestly, spin up the turbo a smidge, with open intake and exhaust - for $2000 you can bump your RS to 160 hp and 170 lb/ft, and NOT void the warranty. Heck, dealerships would get in on the act installing the stuff. A nice Sonic RS with a 25 hp boost, that'd be nice.
IF this is the way GM is headed, then GO FOR IT.

Is that what they hoping for or do they just think it is likely?
