LAIAS - 2019 Nissan Maxima gets a Facelift

The facelifted 2019 Nissan Maxima has just premiered at the ongoing Los Angeles Auto Show 2018 and while it doesn’t look radically different to the 2018 model, there are a number of noteworthy changes present.

Looking at the refreshed Maxima from the front, you’ll no doubt realize that there is a different bumper that seamlessly incorporates a pair of small foglights in blacked-out faux air intakes. Also found up front are refreshed headlights with LEDs and a more complex inner design. The design alterations aren’t limited to the front as viewed from the rear, a serious of alterations catch the eye, including updated taillights. Additionally, the new rear fascia incorporates integrated quad-tip tailpipes as well as a subtle spoiler in Maxima SR grade.

Nissan has also developed new 19-inch Hyper Silver Platinum Reserve Package wheels for the sedan and added a new color, dubbed Sunset Drift, to the car’s palette.

Inside, Nissan has outfitted the 2019 Maxima with a new seat insert pattern and charcoal headliner and pillars for SR and Platinum Reserve Package grades. There is also a new instrument panel, door panels, steering wheel inserts, stitching, seat materials, headliner, pillars and A-pillar speaker grilles, all of which vary depending on the grade level selected by the customer. All grades other than the Maxima S also receive a revised SiriusXM Satellite Radio with Advanced Auto Features and revised Nissan Door to Door Navigation.

    Improved tech.

In addition, Nissan has confirmed that the refreshed Maxima receives its Safety Shield 360 package as standard which includes Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, High Beam Assist, and Rear Automatic Braking. This package comes standard on the Maxima Platinum as part of the SR Premium Package.

Beneath the skin, the 2019 Nissan Maxima is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine, the same powertrain as the outgoing model. All up, the car delivers 300 hp and 261 lb-ft (353 Nm) of torque and comes standard with an Xtronic CVT transmission as standard.

The 2019 Nissan Maxima will be sold in five different grade levels: S, SV, SL, SR, and Platinum.

Pricing and availability details will be announced at a later date.

Red exterior with the orange interior is horrible. The front end is awful.

    At least Nissan is trying...
I personally like it, but it's a chunk of money for a FWD mainstream brand.

The front grill has a buck-tooth beaver look to it.

Just like the new Altima. What's with Toyota and Nissan and, to a lesser extent, Honda with their front ends these days?

Minority here, but I believe you can trace the Maxima's fall from grace (coolness) back to them dropping the manual and going CVT only.

Ballsy move but one that might spark more interest would be to re-introduce the manual. Otherwise it's an also ran, especially now that you can et AWD in the Altima.

Truly one of the most boring uninspiring vehicles on the road today imo. though that goes for almost everything made by Nissan.

    +1
This MY 2019 refresh does nothing to make Nissan Maxima a bona fide "4 Door Sports Car", despite what the marketing dweebs at Nissan North America claim.

A decent enough car but nothing to get overly excited about. I will take exception to this statement though.

"Looking at the refreshed Maxima from the front, you’ll no doubt realize that there is a different bumper that seamlessly incorporates a pair of small foglights in blacked-out faux air intakes."

How do you seamlessly put a light in what is supposed to be a duct designed to enhance braking performance? Doesn't that just draw attention to the fact that the hole is fake? Vaguely reminiscent of when Lincoln put fake headlights on their hidden headlight doors.
It sounded pretty good until I actually said it.
