Porsche 911 GT3 wows the crowds in Geneva

Porsche has a long and storied history of taking its range-topping 911 sportscar racing, with an enviable record of achievements in tow. The latest machine with which the automaker will take to the track can be seen above: the fifth-generation 2014 911 GT3.

With 475 horsepower strumming through the 3.8-liter six-cylinder boxer engine, this is the pinnacle of naturally aspirated performance from Porsche. It can go from 0 to 60 in just 3.3 seconds, hit a top speed of 195 miles per hour and has lapped the Nürburgring Nordschleife in less than seven and a half minutes.

To me they all look pretty much the same.

I probably haven't said this but I am a huge Porsche fan and I love this baby. Can't wait to see how the Z06 responds to this.

So, in "wowing" the crowd... was it more like a, "Wow! Imagine that, it looks the same as nearly every other 911 on the road today."

With that said, Porsche's are great pieces of machinery. Lovely

In the sea of new automotive faces,
there's nothing like the appreciation and beauty of an older model. Let's represent!

I'll add my agreement - looks exactly like any other 911 from the past 10 years. I wonder if the C7 Corvette looks the same to the C6 to Porshe fans.....

May the M97 " Meztger " engine rest in peace, and as a bit of its legacy the A91 series requires an additional 500 rpm to exceed the GT3 RS strength 3.8 by 25 horsepower, and be shaded by the " Metzger " 4.0 as utilized in the GT3 RS 4.0 by 25 horsepower.

I'm a fan of both so they don't look the same to me. But I have a couple of friends that are Porsche fans( and Mercedes) and they say that every corvette since the c4 are the same.

I gotta give Porsche credit for wringing this kind of performance from a naturally aspirated flat six.

It's just too bad Porsche won't develop a successor to the 944/968 because with this engine THAT would be a fun car to drive.

I remember being awestruck by the previous GT3 4.0, so why not use that engine & improve it? 500 before could be 515-525 now. Is Porsche happy being 40-50 hp down from "what might have been" or 25 HP down from current? Of course, Porsche could be planning another GT3 4.0. This newest GT3 looks good but showing it in vanilla white? Not as flattering as it could have been. I'd rock it, but spending over $100K for 475 HP makes no sense when the 'Vette will offer at least 450 for $60K & the other 25 HP for way less than $40K & looks like a edgier design. And I'm not a big fan of the rear wheel steering Porsche plans to use. I didn't like Nissan's Super HICAS system & Porsche's can't be much different.

The Metzger engine was being gradually discontinued with it only being utilized in the 997 GT3, GT3 RS, GT2, and GT2 RS. This motor is actually 40 horsepower up from the base 435 hp Metzger 3.8 as utilized in the base 997 GT3. I would much rather an additional 100 lb ft of torque than an additional 25 horsepower especially in cars that are not utterly divergent in weight.

I'd take a high redline over more torque anyday. Torque is great, but having more midrange torque won't make a car much faster. It will make a car more tolerable and easier to drive though.

A couple things I noticed about the GT3:
The engine uses rocker valves, so the cams don't actually touch the valves. (like a pushrod?)
Outside of the S2000, this is the only production car that revs that high.

Well ( said in a tongue in cheek way) you do drive an S2000 so it's fairly obvious that you prefer high engine revolutions to torque.
