Geneva 2013: Honda Civic Tourer Concept

Honda Civic Tourer Concept is a Euro-Only Wagon

Photos of the new Civic Tourer Concept have just hit the net, giving a look at an upcoming Honda wagon for the European market.

While a concept, it’s most certainly headed to production, though this Civic wagon will not come to North America. After all, it’s based on the Euro-spec Civic platform, which is entirely different from the popular compact sold on our shores.

For a Civic, I really like it. Honda needs to get the vehicle out asap.
It's a shame we won't be getting this. I think it would work great as a sort of mini-CUV.

I'm telling you, I think this car - with an Si engine - could tempt some young males out of SUVs and CUVs and all them tall cars.

Though wagons are more popular in Europe there hasn't been a Civic wagon since the sixth generation. Guess they don't want to be left out any longer between all the other C-segment wagons, including Hyundai/Kia growing with each having a wagon for the i30/Cee'd.

Looks like they're using the same rear doors as the hatchback.

With a hybrid powertrain it would be a much more interesting follow-up to the Insight were they to offer it here - which they won't.

Hey, this actually looks good and redeems the "my mother is an alien" shape of the regular 5-door Civic, although I'd have to wait for the final judgement to see the production version with regular ride height, regular wheels and less flared fenders.

Another reason to ditch the CUV SUV thing. If we could get wagons like this, it might help turn it around.

Looks like a squashed Spark, which really is not a bad thing.

Totally reminds me of the Matrix too.

Personally, I'm not sure I'd want a wagon where the roof tapers lower toward the rear. It really kills the utility, the only makers that I can think of doesn't do that are Subaru and Volvo.

Most wagons are actually pretty squared off. VW Golf Wagon is pretty flat in the rear and so is the A4 Avant with the exception that the A4 has the rear glass sloping quite a bit. The 3 series wagon is quite flat and has a more vertical rear than the A4. The MB E-wagon has a nice cargo area as well. The Insignia wagon seems to have a pretty aggressively sloping roof which could hurt cargo volume.
Research is what I am doing when I don't know what I am doing.
