Geneva 2013: 2015 Ford Tourneo (Transit) Courier

Ford Debuts Tourneo Courier, Custom and Connect Vans in Geneva

If moving people around is what you're looking for most in a vehicle, then you can't ignore Ford's new Tourneo lineup, revealed at the Geneva Motor Show, which consists of three all-new models: Courier, Custom and Connect. The main difference between these three models is the number of people they can carry, which ranges from five to nine.

The smallest model, the Tourneo Courier is based on the same platform as the Fiesta and B-Max, so aside from being a practical people mover, it will also be more fun and engaging to drive. The Courier is also not bad to look at, featuring the current Ford styling language, and at 4.16 meters long with large windows all-round, parking it will not pose any serious problems.

Power will come from a selection of petrol and diesel engines. The diesels will be the main sellers, so the 75 hp 1.5-liter and 95 hp 1.6-liter are the most relevant here. Still, the 1.0-liter EcoBoost petrol engine, with 100 hp, is an interesting alternative, as well.

I have a Fiesta sedan for a daily driver. This thing is ugly as sin but I would appreciate the utility in same size car.

Ford's style is already getting old. Not aging that well. It looks like an 80's econo box. Sorry.

Would look pretty decent sitting slightly lower to the ground, maybe just a picture at a different angle. Kind of fun in a Mazda5/1st gen xB/Astro Van kind of way.

Re: Geneva 2013: 2015 Ford Tourneo (Transit) Courier

You have to wonder if part of the European market problem isn't simple over-saturation in terms of segments offered. Just with Ford you now have the

Fusion/Mondeo platform: S Max 5 door mpv and Galaxy which is a slightly more square 5 door mpv (2)

That's seven 'people movers' between from C to D segment sizes in one market from one automaker, and that's just the mpv/van portion of the lineup. You also have to realize that Kuga (Escape) is there too, and the next generation Edge is also going to be sold in this market as well. Throw in the Focus and Mondeo wagons you can likewise currently buy and you have a market which will have 11 offerings that are a variation of a wagon or a mini-van from just one manufacturer in the B, C, and D segment range.

Hell, no wonder nobody can make any money in Europe. To put that into perspective, in the US market, Ford offers the

    Fiesta sedan (1)
    Fiesta hatch (2)
    Focus sedan (3)
    Focus hatch (4)
    Fusion sedan (5)
    Taurus sedan (6)
    Flex mpv (7)
    Escape (8)
    Edge (9)
    Explorer (10)
    B Max (11)
    Mustang (12)

If you just leave out trucks/bof vehicles are Ford you have a scenario where Ford offers almost as many 'people movers' in Europe as Ford has offerings in the US market! Get a handle on it guys!

^ that multipicity of vehicles per segment is part of my rationale for Mercury's return, syr
    & even a method for some reduction/consolidation

I know its weird, but there is demand in Europe for commercial van based MPVs and normal MPVs in Europe. Most automakers offer both.

Those that don't, end up like HondaEU...nowhere.

Re: Geneva 2013: 2015 Ford Tourneo (Transit) Courier

It does always sound like a lot of vans. Even if there is demand it seems like oversaturation. Factor in the increase in smaller crossovers as well, like the Ecosport for Ford. Choice is good, but can the market support it?

I tend to think of the PSA van/MPV lineups when I think of having too many though.

It seems to me that significant consolidation of designs (and powertrains) would help the profit column by reducing development costs, more common parts ("best of breed") resulting in economies of scale.

It is important what WE use as our "moral compass" and ...
the "measuring stick" chosen for judging progress/success as well.
