Frankfurt 2013: All New Nissan X-Trail/Rogue

All-New Nissan X-Trail SUV is Also the 2014 Rogue for North America
    SEPTEMBER 10, 2013
    Carscoops

The 2013 edition of the Frankfurt Motor Show welcomed the international premiere of the new generation Nissan X-Trail, which as we rightly suspected, is a global model and will also act as a replacement to the Nissan Rogue in North America, with differences between the two possibly (but not surely) concerning the powertrain options.

Built on the new jointly-developed Nissan and Renault Common Module Family (CMF) platform architecture, and projected to be available in 190 countries around the globe, the new X-Trail adopts a more crossover look and feel in its styling, which was previewed by last year's Nissan HiCross Concept.

Strangely enough, Nissan is keeping a great number of details under cover in its initial press release, including the SUV's dimensions and powertrain lineup. What Nissan did say about the X-Trail's engine lineup is that it will downsize.

Hopefully Nissan is dropping that awful "Rogue" moniker.

That is a million times better looking that the current rouge. I also wish they would use the X-trail name as well

Wasn't the Rogue the equivalent of the Qashqai/Dualis in other markets like Europe and Australia? The X-Trail is RWD and a stand-alone model. I guess this means they are dropping the Qashqai/Dualis?

The Xterra is RWD... the X-Trail is FWD.

The Qashqai is Nissan's bread-and-butter in Europe. It's in the top five in some territories. From what I gather from global Nissan sites, the Qashqai/Dualis is a "crossover" and the X-Trail is an "SUV", so it's likely the Qashqai/Dualis will continue to be sold alongside the X-Trail.

X-Trail wasn't RWD. Both live side by side...with the same wheelbase. Yes, I know, confusing.

Looks decent but not a fan of this overplayed C-pillar upsweep. It makes the rear look so heavy. Autoblog has more pictures and says it has a third row of seats meant solely for contortionists.

A good amount of family resemblance with the Pathfinder, though it wears it better since from the side the Pathfinder looks like it droops in the middle. Hopefully it'll be much improved now, as aside from price/value I never quite got the outgoing Rogue's popularity; it wasn't that nice inside and not that roomy for its size.

Rogue and Qashqai/Dualis were different models, though derived from the same platform (as was the X-Trail I believe). The 5-seat Qashqai is about the size of the Trax/Encore, while Rogue was larger than even the Qashqai+2. Compared to the Qashqai+2, this new Rogue/X-Trail has a wheelbase about 2" shorter, but is otherwise about 4-5" longer and taller, and 2" wider.

I imagine the Qashqai/Dualis will continue, as it's been successful and they don't overlap. Even though they both offer 3 rows now, the +2 should still be different enough, kind of like the Ford Flex and Explorer on the same platform.

Ah, you are correct. All this time, I thought X-Trail was RWD!

Yep, my mistake. I guess what confused me is that the Qashqai/Dualis is sold alongside the X-Trail in many markets. I thought X-Trail was other markets' version of the Xterra (low cost 4WD). I'm embarrassed, I'm usually better informed than that, LOL!

You can tell that GM really cared about the ATS from day one. If GM cared about all its vehicles that way they would truely be #1.

It sure looks like a big improvement over the last generation and I see tons of the last generation roaming around so this should be a big seller. X-Trail sounds like en·trail to me.

I just went through the pre-order configurator and i must say it's a good value proposition for the optioned up mid-level.

The styling is an improvement and since I live about 5 miles from the Smyrna, TN plant, I'm sure I will see a ton of them.

Also, about a month ago, I saw a camo'ed version which was probably production testing. Wish I had snapped a pic. I wondered what it was....now I know.
