Seeking to build on the 25-percent retail sales gain by the G6 so far this year, Pontiac is revealing a new G6 GXP coupe show car at the upcoming New York International Auto Show. Designed to augment the G6’s sleek styling with a more aggressive appearance and stance, the new GXP show car will test both media and public reaction before any final decision on production is made. “Although the GXP performance series has been very successful in the past, we’ve never attempted to introduce a GXP on our largest volume vehicle and we want to be sure we do it right,” said Dennis Maraone, Pontiac product director. “We believe the package of exterior, interior and performance enhancements we’ve put together on the G6 GXP show car should appeal to 2+2 coupe enthusiasts.”

Highlighting the exterior styling changes is a redesigned front fascia, featuring an integrated lower air dam and an aggressive chrome treatment of Pontiac’s signature twin-port grille, as well as a twin air scoop hood. Around back, the new rear fascia shows off the dual chrome-tipped exhaust and unique “hammerhead” spoiler. Side rocker panels, 19-inch wheels, vented cross-drilled brake rotors, and a 25-mm reduction in suspension height finish off the GXP’s ground-hugging appearance.

Inside, red accents give the GXP a sportier flavor than a standard G6. The red chrome trim on the instrument cluster, center stack and door controls augments the red leather seat and door panel inserts.

Under the hood, the G6 GXP uses a modified 3.9-liter V-6 engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission. Linking a ram air induction system with K&N air filter to a cat-back free flowing exhaust helps boost engine output to 270 horsepower (202 kw) and 259 lb.-ft. of torque (358 Nm).

The GXP performance series was introduced in 2003 with the Bonneville GXP. The Grand Prix GXP joined the line in 2005 and currently accounts for 30 percent of all Grand Prix retail sales. The Solstice GXP launches this fall.

Pontiac Unveils G6 GXP Show Car
Enhancements hint at possible new offering in growing G6 portfolio

DETROIT – Seeking to build on the 25-percent retail sales gain by the G6 so far this year, Pontiac is revealing a new G6 GXP coupe show car at the upcoming New York International Auto Show. Designed to augment the G6’s sleek styling with a more aggressive appearance and stance, the new GXP show car will test both media and public reaction before any final decision on production is made.

I really like, it especially the front end.

With that elongated front grille it makes it look much more aggressive and bold. I think I've made this point elsewhere, but the way it's shaped and takes up most of the front end also kinda/sorta reminds me of an Alfa Romeo "shield grille" - but obviously with a Pontiac flair.

I like it a overall, what do you guys think?

Those interior photos are so obviously Photoshopped. You can tell that all of the red trim was added onto an existing photo. That photo is the same awful image of the G6 interior they have been using everywhere since the coupe came out. The steering wheel and parking brake handle are missing the leather wrapping (though the seams have been photoshopped into this image). It's not a big deal overall but the quality of the image doesn't help one's impression of the G6 interior.

Re: 2007 Pontiac G6 GXP Coupe concept unveiled!!

I really like it. The regular G6 coupe was just missing something without the spoiler. This new version with the spoiler really makes it look alot better, without a 'weak' looking sloped back end. I really like the elongated pontiac grill as well. The HUGE emblem is also nice, im liking that automakers are moving to larger emblems.

The only thing I could complain about is the hood. Its a good idea, but its way to angular for the car, it should be smoother, with a mesh metal grill like on the bumper, the two should flow better in my opinion.

But all in all, thats one very sharp vehicle. Could win some victory over imports with the 6-speed. The 3.9L is alright for now, but get the high feature 3.6 in there ASAP.

Yeah, agreed - either that or a 350Z from the side.

I've always wondered why they didn't do the front end alittle different then the sedan. This is much better!!

Re: 2007 Pontiac G6 GXP Coupe concept unveiled!!

GM wants a reaction from the public, so here goes.

Parts I don't like: The "chrome red" look cheapo aftermarket. Make the color user selectable. I'm partial to the satin silver look, but I recognize its getting overdone in the marketplace. The center stack still looks cheap. The wing looks (as someone else mentioned) "ricey". The front end looks goofy with the elongated Pontiac nose. The side rockers look tacked on and out of place.

On the bright side, the rims look great, the engine and performance pieces sound excellent.

I know the look it supposed to be agressive, but I would tone it down about 50%.

    Mark
