Volvo is taking an interesting tack to gauge consumer interest in its new hatch, the C30. According to Automotive News, the automaker is allowing visitors to the C30's site to configure their ride as desired, and then is quoting them a price. However, that price fluxuates depending on when you visit.

AutoNews' example involved both the base model and a fully loaded version, with the former coming in on March 8th at $24,970, while the latter's price was $28,270. Checking back six days later, on March 14th, prices had dropped to $21,565 for the base model and $24,415 for its fully optioned sibling.

Wish it was that cheap in Canada. If it was $1000-2000 cheaper I'd definitely consider it, but at a starting price near $30K CDN, it's pushing on GTI territory and doesn't have the performance to match it. It should be priced in the mid 20's CDN to compete with the Rabbit and get the younger crowd that it appeals to.

I definatly think it should be atleast 2-3k cheaper then the current S40...maybe start it out around the price of the MINI S 21k since like the MINI its customizable and prices will add up

    Maybe $2000.
$3,000 if Turbo charged and AWD.

After seeing it at the auto show, the car would be a STEAL for the prices between 21k and 24k. It really is a very nice car, awesome style, materials feel great, and the build quality is extremely nice.

    Screw that. I would rather get a V50 T5.

    Volvo wagon FTW.

Considering this will have the same underpinnings but would be cheaper, lighter, and same engine as the T5, this will be a true hot hatch that Audi should have brought with the A3 a couple years back and not just the 4 door.

I am really looking forward to see this car in person

Re: What would you pay for a C30? Volvo's interested.

Well here in Australia, the base price for the C30 is $34,000AUD, going all the way up to $44,000AUD, for the most dearest model.

Volvo Australia has pretty much sold it's entire allocation of C30's for the rest of 2007, which is just 500 units!! Volvo dealers say that could sell twice that many, if they could only just get their hands on more stock.

This is what the C30 is offered here in Australia:

    2.4L Petrol
    2.4L Diesel
    2.5L Turbo

It's also priced competitively with the competition.

Here are the base pricing for the competiton in Australian dollars:

    Audi A3 3dr hatch - $33,950AUD
    BMW 1 Series 5dr hatch - $34,900AUD
    Mercedes-Benz A Class 3dr hatch - $29,990AUD
    Mercedes-Benz B Class- 5dr hatch - $44,990AUD
    MINI Cooper 3dr hatch - $31,100AUD

The Audi A3 is the biggest selling car out of this list in Australia.

Looks horrible with the black plastic underbody.

Looks sweet in a solid single color all around.

I never liked it until i saw a picture of a red one.

Saw a black one yesterday... it's a really striking car. I love the slope of the rear end.

Exactly. It is high 20s for the ~160 Hp 4 with a 5 spd - where the base in the US is the Turbo 5 with a 6 spd. Once again, we get shafted. Oh well, one less purchase here.
