What the VW CEO thinks of the CTS (A Motortrend tale...)

    http://blogs.motortrend.com/1011104/...ers/index.html
Cadillac was the scene of the final fender moment. A colleague of mine was looking at the new CTS (pictured at top), whose complexly stamped front fender is a work of body engineering art. He became briefly aware of a fast-moving swarm of suits: senior VW executives accompanying the mercurial Ferdinand Piech on his whirlwind walk-round of the show. He glanced at the CTSís fender and muttered something in German, before moving swiftly on, the VW suit swarm in close attendance.

What did he say? Fortunately, my colleague speaks a little German. Turns out Piech thinks the CTS front fender is so complex it must be made of plastic. Got news for you Ferdinand. Itís all steel. And stamped right here in the USA.

    That kinda made my day.
Read up more on this complex fender at the link. Here is Motortrend's video to show you why it is so complex.

    Looking for a picture...

Hilarious! The CTS is THE modern day triumph of GM design. Bill Mitchell would be proud.

If I were GM I would be moving on to make my next product Blitz.. You bet Japan Inc. will have those fenders on their next product.
And the Chinese will have their own knock off of the CTS called the KST or something

That was a cool video. Those types of details about the products are always interesting.

It would be great if they had an 08 at the auto show in town here, though I doubt it. I want to get a good look at it.
It's attention to detail like this that will help make GM stand out.

I am looking forward to the autoshow here in KC to see how these cars really look. All the pictures of the CTS have been impressive but to see one in person should be amazing.
They said it couldn't be done. That is until I did it.

Yes my friend it is a stunner. I went to the Detorit autoshow this past weekend and it is hard to believe that this car is actually going to production. The complexity of the front fascia was so awesome to look at it took me several minutes just to digest it all. From the photos I've seen an even the ones I took it doesn't show the roundedness of both the c and d pillars of the rear of the car. But they are there which gives a nice contrast to the edgy sharp wedge shapes on the front. It's a well sculpted vehicle IMHO.

The CTS front fender is complex, and coming from a German! I thought everything was easy for Germans

Everything is OK with the new CTS I love how it looks inside & out. World class car without a doubt but there's one problem guys - the key :

    which is :

WTF Cadillac? You just made a better looking car inside & out than the new C-Class but You save some money on the key design ?!?
Even my Opel which is the second least prestigious GM brand has a better looking key.

It's attention to detail like this that will help make GM stand out.
and it's been the lack of such little details that has hurt GM up to this point. infuse this into all of the product and it will sell.
