Tokyo Motor Show: Audi Shooting Brake Concept.

Tokyo Motor Show: Audi Shooting Brake Concept

Tokyo Motor Show: the Shooting Brake Concept is a study vehicle offering a further trailblazing interpretation of Audi's current formal idiom, blending the powerful dynamism of a sports car with a new sense of spaciousness and greater functionality. With its powerful 250 bhp, 3.2-litre six-cylinder engine and quattro permanent four-wheel drive, the Shooting Brake Concept produces a quality of road behaviour that in every respect lives up to its visual impact. The study vehicle sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.0 seconds, and its top speed is electronically governed at 250 km/h.

As is typical of every Audi study car, in addition to its design qualities the Shooting Brake Concept features a raft of technical innovations for Tokyo. These include the adaptive damping system Audi magnetic ride, an evolutionary version of navigation system plus with touch screen monitor and character recognition, and the new LED headlight technology.

It has a little bit to much Bengalism to it for me to like it. The basic idea is nice but the details just make it seem weird.

Also what is up with the non round steering wheels?

It makes gettin in and out of a small car much easier, especially those with long legs.

Shooting Brake = Shooting brakes are generally Estate cars based on Sportscars and Coupes. These are modifications of luxury coupés with an estate car-like back fitted. They generally remain with two side doors.
The purpose of them, historically, is obvious from the name; they were vehicles for the well-off shooter and hunter, giving space to carry shotguns and other equipment. The word 'brake' in 'shooting brake' may come from the French term for station wagon, break.

They applied this name to this Concept, because as you can see: It's based on the Audi TT Coupe. Coupes are a good base for conversions into shooting brakes.

The Lynx Eventer - a shooting brake conversion of the Jaguar XJ-S.

They have rarely been made by the factory and are generally aftermarket conversions; some are still made. Up through the early 1960s many of them were built as woodies, making them some of the most exclusive and luxurious woodies ever built.

I like that more then the new TT....hopefully they decide to produce it as it is one of the nicest Audis I've seen in a while and actually brings excitement with luxury

    I would buy one.....

Looks like it could directly compete with new offerings like the Volvo C30 or BMW Z4 coupe...maybe bring it here as the A2? We can wish can't we?

    That IS the new TT:

Just with rear hatch. The rear fender lines really show the little bit of lineage to the 1st gen.

I prefer the Z4 coupe myself - or even Project Steppenwolf.

Yes...but I preffer the overall proportions and the hatch look to the actual high roof TT version that looks more characteristic to a VW beetle...this has a sleeker Euro hatch but if made productin will probably start in mid 30s

Re: Tokyo Motor Show: Audi Shooting Brake Concept.

3.2 V6 250 bhp is good, but it could be better with the new 3.6 V6 280 bhp.

Generally, Shooting Brakes are awkward looking cars, like that Jaguar above. But this Audi concept is Acceptable to my eyes, not Beautiful but not an eyesore.

The interior is cool, check that iPod slot below the screen...How cool is that? The back-end is OK but the front is just plain Hideous. The grille is exaggeratedly BIG!

Overall, this is a nice Concept, but I can't see it as the next Audi TT. I would rather the next Audi TT would be based on the Audi Nuvolari Concept (below).

The Nuvolari is Stunningly good looking IMO.

Except for the grill/front, I prefer the proportions and stily of the shooting brake to the coupe like Novolari

OOOOH! I really like it! The only problem I have with it are those vertical slats in the Grille. I would like to see the more traditional grille make it onto the vehicle. I think that the lines are gorgeous!
