Hmmm... I'd need to take a walk-around, but it looks kinda Lambo to me. The last Esprit is my favourite vehicle ever, so I sure hope a new one has the same unique look and timeless style. Thankfully, this is just an artists rendition. Didn't we see a Lotus prototype a while ago? It was a grey car, kinda tall...
I love the old Esprits too! There is a guy that rents a garage next to where we detail, and his brother past away and he is left with the remains of a Lotus Esprit Turbo w/ a blown motor. I wish I knew a mechanic I could trust to get it up and running, and I would consider it. Otherwise it just sits in there.Originally Posted by paul8488
Just checked... it was the Lotus Europa I was thinking about:
That looks more Ferrari-ish than Lambo to me. I like it, but it's not really what I imagine for a Lotus.
Very Lambo/Ferrari...but **************** I'm liking it

I know 91 S-10baja! Some mentioned it's a little odd for a sports car as it's so high off the ground, but I think it's gorgeous. I love Lotus... looked up the price of used Elan's thinking they might be affordable, but they're still rather pricey.
Hmmm... anyone know how the Elise compares to the Elan in baase price (taking into account the difference in age)? Relatively speaking, is the Elise as affordable as the Elan, or was the Elan a much cheaper model? If the Elan WAS indeed a cheaper car, I'd really like to see Lotus do it again... a hot, light little coupe or convertible to rival the Solstice and Miata.
Are you talking about the 'Elan' from the nineties? The FWD model?Originally Posted by paul8488
Nice. Lotus Esprits have always been the poor man's Lambo, but it's also the car that I grew up fascinated with in Singapore - you know those James Bond movies which also happened to be the first movies I remember watching. There was also a Lotus Europa that was parked on the way to school. Just plain different from everything else.
The inflation adjusted price of the Elise is lower than that of the Elan M100 btw. So the Elise really is the entry level Lotus. There's just no substitue to a mid-engined car under 2000 lbs.
Lotus Espirit is one nameplate that should definitely return, even if I don't really care for such vehicles. But this actually looks like a half-hearted attempt to create a Lamborghini replica - I would expect much more "original Lotus style".
Yeah. I fell in love with the car years ago, when it was featured in a Road and Track 'Best-Handling FWD Cars in the World' comparison. It's nowhere near as exciting to look at as an Esprit or Elise... but I like it nonetheless. I believe Kia bought the design, though as far as I know they never built it.Originally Posted by 91 s-10baja
Oh yes they did!
And here it is - the Kia Elan!
Now, asides from the obvious rebadge - how cool is that, in black?
I'd have the Kia over the Lotus because a) it's much rarer b) ask someone if they'd like a ride in your Kia, they say no, you pull away smoking the tyres (albeit the fronts).
God I want one - now look, I'm searching for one under £10,000 now!
GMI mods - look what they make you do!
Ah thanks Tom... I remember seeing Kia Elan prototype pics (new badges and head and taillights, I think), but didn't know it was ever built. I'd love one too, though I'd love the Lotus... since I've always wanted one. Do they run the same price used?Originally Posted by tomprice
Oh, and as for living in France... I would have picked the UK, but wanted a football team worth cheering for!
I love it. Personally though, my favorites are the early 90s ones like in Pretty Woman that Julia Roberts drove...
