Skoda Accidentally Drops Official Photos of New Superb

Czech carmaker Skoda reportedly goofed up and mistakenly published the first full images of their all-new Superb ahead of the car's scheduled debut tonight.

The third generation of Skoda's flagship model takes design inspiration from last year's daring VisionC concept car, though unfortunately, the study's sexy rear end with the sloping window and boot line didn't make the cut.

Seems like a slow news day soooo VW it is.

Not a bad looking thing, but boy are all VW products are starting to look alike. The interiors specially are a give away.

Yes, it definitely has a VW-ness about it. Though are they selling the same VW's that I'm think of in the same markets as they sell the Skoda? Meaning it mattered to GM (in a bad way) because their Cadillac's started looking like Chevies with an overall GM-ness. But if they don't sell in the same market then it isn't a big deal....

VWs? Yes, but now every brand in their portfolio is starting to look alike. It's starting to look like good ol GM, but with better interiors.

It'll be interesting to see how this does in the market. Though the midsize (to us) sedan/wagon segment is said to be shrinking in Europe, options continue to abound:

    Citroen C5/Peugeot 508
    Ford Mondeo
    Hyundai i40
    Kia Optima
    Mazda 6
    Opel Insignia
    Renault Laguna
    Skoda Superb
    Volkswagen Passat

I despise that grille. But other than that, not bad!

The roles at VAG are well defined: Skoda is the cheaper VW, Seat is the much cheaper Audi.

    VW Polo

    Skoda Fabia

    Audi S1

    Seat Ibiza Cupra

That's news to many where I am - the general opinion is that Seat is still floundering to find out what it's role is in VW Group.

Well, I thought it was clear since Seat introduced the 2009 Exeo, a modified last generation Audi A4. But I admit that Seat doesn't fulfill the expectations set in them.

No, Skoda shares the actual platforms, engines and transmissions with VW, that were available at launch. But not the top versions of it, of course.

Skodas aren't that cheap, or how many people in the US would pay +$40,000 for a comparable Chevrolet Cruze 2.0 TD station wagon?

They were at one point not too long ago. They're not now. But they're not identically equipped either.
But it's been a long time since I've driven a Skoda. Actually... the last Skoda I drove was a Superb.

Re: Skoda Accidentally Drops Official Photos of New Superb

Skoda seem to focus on functionality better than the other VW Group brands - where size and value matter, the Superb takes some beating - just what the traditional mainstream buyers want.

Since Opel/Vauxhall downsized the Insignia, internally, from it's predecessor then a Skoda Superb Estate is front-runner to replace our family Vectra-C Estate (Epsilon LWB) - especially as the new GM LDE 2.0 diesel hasn't designed out any of the inherent faults in the Fiat JTD it originates from - for which Vectra-C owners are now paying significant amounts of money to keep on the road.
