Oh, GM knows how to do that. It'd just be incredibly difficult to do with a $15,000 Aveo.

Do they even make a preofit with the Aveo? And 28,000 is AVERAGE profit per veichle btw.

With that much profit per vehicle, apparently Porsche buyers aren't getting quite as much as they think they are.

Report: Porsche profits $28,000 per car

A new study has found that German sports car maker Porsche earns an incredible average of $28,000 in profit on every vehicle it sells. The figure — printed in Germany's Welt am Sonntag newspaper, citing a study by B&D Forecast — dwarfs the per-car earnings of virtually any other automaker.

Comparatively, luxury and sports car maker BMW makes about $3,200 per car. Audi nets a less impressive $1,580, and Chrysler and Volkswagen earn just $900 and $400, respectively.

Say that again when the Bruxelles-imposed fuel economy cap goes into effect.

Re: Porchse makes 28,000 per car

Does anyone realize that Porsche makes money on things other than vehicle production? Just taking their profits and dividing by the number of cars they build doesn't provide a good clue to how much they make, on average, per car.

I don't know about that. Have you checked the residual values of their cars? They hold their value incredibly well. Mainly because Porsche does not discount their cars. I have owned a 911 and a 968, and they are with out a doubt the most fun cars I have ever driven. I bought them used and sold them for nearly what i paid for them 2 years later.
