    Passat R-GT

After the Camaro concept, Ford Mustang GT-500, and Challenger, this Passat was easily the best looking and most exciting car at the show. 575hp, AWD, and quite a looker in person.

VW is today what BMW used to be...affordable, fun, reasonably attractive transportation.

Note to self: Hope VW doesn't ever get Bangled!

Except, that it isn't reliable as what BMW used to be ...newer BMWs (the bangled ones) are *stylish* ...but they are way to overcomplicated, full of silly electronics.

Such a shame Volkswagen lost the plot in reliability.

Their quality is getting better. The early 2000s were nothing but trouble. From exploding clutches to things falling off. The newer seem to have that fixed now.

    Really?

    So good news!

    Glad to hear VW improved.

BTW: What about BMW 540i you were intending to buy, Did you buy it?

    I quite like the new 5-Series E60, but I prefer the 5-series E39 more.

The 5-Series E39 is a very reliable and sturdy car.

Affordable? I think not. Autoweek just tested a Passat with an MSRP of $36,000.

I took a lot of pics of this one at NAIAS..it was a cool car. I didn't get the weird stripe job across the roof, though. It looks like a gray, elongated UPC symbol. You can see it in front of the moonroof opening in the picture on the first post. At least they weren't black and didn't have small numbers printed at the end.

Really? Year for year, the customer satisfaction is getting down here in germany. Last winter VW had trouble with burst engines. Not many, but the german press had again their headlines.

    Re: Passat R-GT

the early 2000's had coil pack issues and window regulator issues anything after 2002 is good mines been great no issues and its beat like a 2$ whore. not a fan of the Bangle BMW's either
I think if you scan the bar code on that Passat though its gonna ring up for a lil more than 36k would hate to see the price to be honest.

Wow, that is a good looking car - too bad it's a VW though. ;]

    I like it!

GM, specifically Impala guys of Chevy... TAKE NOTE! That's a real sleeper, no FWD here!

AWD or RWD, attractive, stylish, sporty, but refined... and POWERFUL!

Bank denied me. Stuck with the Alero for now but still have my eyes set on an E39 .

And yes I have seen a lote less news on VW troubles. Anything after 02 has been an improvement for them.

True, VW has improved a lot in the last few years. They unsed to only be a bit better than the Koreans if I remember right.
