New VW SUV can not lock it??????

I rented a small VW SUV and the remote would not work. Well there was no way to lock it up. There was no key or key lock in the door. I could lock it if I was in the car but once I got out I could not lock the vehicle.

VW can't make key locks in the doors anymore? Is this the future? Well it sucks! What happens when the tech doesn't work? I don't think they thought this one through. I know now I would not consider buying one.

Could it have been that the battery in the unit went bad? Is the lock function the only thing in the fob that is not working?

We changed the battery but it didn't work. It had lock/unlock and the rear hatch. None of it worked.

Do some searching on the internet. If it is a Tiguan there is a plastic cover over the keyhole on the drivers door that needs to be removed.

You can't just lock the doors with the interior lock button with one door open, then close the door? That's worked on every car I've ever had with power locks. I suppose if that did work, you'd have no way of getting back in the vehicle!!

Most, if not all, EU cars will not allow this. My Saab refused to lock from the door if a door was open. My Evoque will not either, it won't even lock from the FOB if a door is open. All doors must be shut and then locked from FOB.

That was the case for our VW Golf as well so I would assume the VW CUV he has will be set up the same way.

We had a vette that would unlock if you were close to it and the FOB was on you. Walk away and it would lock and toot the horn. At a gas station, the car would lock and unlock 3 or 4 times.
