MINI has reportedly approved production of a new model known only as the Speedster. Although the generic moniker could be replaced by a more original badge, the name clearly indicates what to expect: a raked windshield, just two seats, a removable (not convertible) roof panel, and performance-oriented handling.
Over the years, there have been two main types of “speedsters” in the automotive universe. The first has no windshield at all, while the second has a very low windscreen and no roof. It appears MINI is opting for the latter configuration, considering the market for cars with windshields is probably several orders of magnitude larger than the market for cars that require a helmet with a visor.
