Yeah it is annoying that you can't see the whole picture on a lot the cars because of the stuff on top of them.

Maybe for the US market. In the home market I have endured a cloth seated purple MPV Mercedes rental that would strip all images of Luxury brand in the US if placed in this market. I do applaud them as to what vehicles they allow in NA to keep that 3 pointed cache going.
Current: 12 Buick Regal Turbo Premium I Group (Crystal Red/Cashmere with sunroof) and 09 Saturn Outlook XR

    Previous: 09 Pontiac G8 GT (09-12), 06 Buick LaCrosse CXS (06-09), 05 Ford Freestyle SEL (05-09) 02 Hyundai Elantra GT (01-06), 00 VW Jetta (00-05), 85 Mercedes 350 SEL (99-01), 84 BMW 316 (98-99), 90 Mitsubishi Mirage(91-98), 79 Chrysler LeBaron (88-90), 73 Dodge Dart Swinger (87-88).

It's not only the luxury image that is preserved in the U.S., but also the image of performance. I have also rented Mercedes in the various EU countries, always receiving a stripped bare-bones model with an interior on par with the econoboxes of the 1970s and the tiniest gas engine. In straight line acceleration some of those rentals I had made a '59 VW Beetle seem like a pocket rocket by comparison. The chassis dynamics of the base models always was what one would expect from Mercedes, which made for entertaining driving in the Italian hill country on twisty uphills with the right foot firmly planted to the floor.

Well they're clearly targeting the 1-series! I'm not really a Mercedes fan, but I like this A-class. Is it FWD or RWD?

Might be a good idea for Cadillac to do a small car like this for Europe... BMW, Mercedes and Audi all create life-long fans with their smaller entries and watch them graduate to larger models as they get older. Cadillac might prefer to play their 'large classic American car angle' in Europe, but I'm not sure that there are enough classic Cadillac fans to float them long-term.
