Land Rover Defender - "Step aside, Jeep Wrangler"

    http://www.autoevolution.com/news/pr...ept-38486.html

While we havenít yet gotten to see the DC100 Concept thatís coming our way via the Frankfurt Motor Show next week, Project Kahn must have been so excited about this latest development in the automotive industry that they took to image edition for the official photos released by the manufacturer. The waiting is for a Lara Croft version.

I don't see this pushing a Wrangler out of it's way. It would probably break down before any pushing even started.

Its amazing that no one 'gets it' with Jeeps. Hummer, FJ Cruiser, this POS - luxury is the LAST thing on a Jeep owners mind. 50% of it is heritage - the other being able to go anywhere and modify the thing.

With those tires and rim clearance about the only thing 'rough' you're going to do in that thing is the Beach and Sand - would love to see how that thing goes over even the smallest bumps.

How do you take the roof off? Oh you need a winch to haul the top to your garage

    FAIL

It might lack some ground clearance, but I love the look of it. That would make a very slick rich-man's toy... and Land Rover has the know-how to turn out a true off-road version if they want to.

When your product is less reliable than a Wrangler, you know you've got problems....

Bingo - you hit the nail on the head - "Rich Mans Toy"

Its looks nice to me also - but move aside Wrangler is the wrong marketing campaign.

Wranglers dont have great reputations - but I can say this. My Wrangler has been 10x more reliable than my Enclave. Ive had a leaky soft top roof to worry about thats it.

I'd need about 3 pages to review the issues on my Enclave unfort

I agree with goochman 100%. This thing will sell to suburban yuppies who want to pretend that going over a speedbump at the local grocery store is going offfroad. It has nothing on the Wrangler.
    Get used to more.

We all have to realise that these are promotional shots of a prototype vehicle for a 'lifestyle' vehicle outfitter (Kahn). I have confidence that Land Rover will produce a 4x4 with much more ground clearance and off-road capability than these pictures suggest.

70% of the Defenders that were built until now, still exist.

Re: Land Rover Defender - "Step aside, Jeep Wrangler"

Is the Compass a serious offroader? Really? It's rubbish. It's the worst car Jeep have ever made.

As for the Wrangler it's very basic. So basic I really wouldn't want to cross Africa in it. This looks (particually when in LWB form) closer to the Toyota Land Cruiser. Given that Land Rover probably won't fill this with lots of complicated toy's then it will probably also be very reliable.

Frankly I love this. And yes step aside Jeep Wrangler. And when in LWB version stip aside Ford F150. The Defender is going on the attack!

lol - tell you what - you pick any of the Defenders in the pictures above and Ill take a stock Wrangler Rubicon and lets head out to Africa. I bet you wont make it over the first sand dune.

If LR's marketing tagline is going against the Wrangler they are way off base. Different markets all together.

The only thing those Defenders are going to attack is the local mall parking lot.

Also just curious why you brought up the Compass? Who the heck cares about that?

I think the Defender will be a game changer. I'm not predicting it will outsell the Wrangler or the f150 but it will pilfer value sales at the top end for both those brands. Land Rover won't want to compete at the bottom end where there is no profit....

I brought up the Compass because whatever you say about Land Rover it has NEVER made a car that bad or that embarrassing to the brand. Jeep tanked in the UK long ago because it can't compete on quality.
