They mention the XE being midsized. Is the 3-Series considered midsized now with the 1-Series around? If not, than maybe they're doing what Cadillac did with the first couple of generations of CTS competing against the 3-Series but being almost midsize...

I wonder if they spin a smaller lightweight Z4 rival of off this platform they might use The E-Type moniker once again?

I think they are referring to its classification in Europe?? Pretty sure this is 3-series in size and not a Tweener. Sounds like it'll be revealed at the Paris Auto show in October. There had been talk of it being mildly disguised production car masquerading as a concept. Now it appears it will be the actual production car.

I wonder if perhaps it'll be launched in L.A this November?

^ They usually refer to what we would call compact luxury cars as midsize for some reason.

As SKH said, I think it's a European metric.

Yeah. it has to be that. Making a Tweener which straddles two market segments, rather than just going head to head is generally not that successful. Over there (at least the British mags) they think a Vette is huge, when in reality it's about the same size as the F-TYPE.

Even if this is revealed in Paris, it'll for sure be displayed in L.A . the following month. With this, and possibly the big Cadillac or V-Series CTS /ATS and maybe some new Buick's, the L.A. Show is shaping up to be excellent from my perspective.

I'm not sure where it'll be revealed, but I'm guessing a European show, maybe followed by Detroit. Maybe LA.

I think that's the classification in Europe not the US. 3-series used to be 1-series in size a long time ago.

I guess the "XS" that most media outlets thought this was going to be is going to be something different... I wonder what it is...??

Vette is about 1" longer and 2" narrower than F-Type. So technically, it's bigger but not really. F-TYpe *looks* smaller though.

And yes, a tweener strategy doesn't work. Just ask Cadillac and how they lost a full decade trying just that strategy.

I think it's the same thing with a different designation.

Just saw that at Car Magazine. Thought the one on Autocar was just one of their renderings. It would appear to be the real McCoy!

Look at the hard ridge on top of the fender. Interesting. I thought on the Prototype that was just an element added to confuse us. It runs from front to back in one continuous line. I like the front a lot. Nothing earth shattering, but very handsome.

They also show the Aluminum structure from all angles.

If they reveal it at Paris, then the smart money would probably say it'll be displayed in L.A. However it could be Detroit as it doesn't go on sale Stateside until 2016 due I assume to the fact that the ingenium engine will initially be produced as a diesel. The petrol versions I think come on stream late 2015 which would explain why the Hot EVOQUE autobiography just got the revised Ford unit from the MKC.

Yeah, I noticed that ridge as well. It's an odd feature. I wonder how it'll be utilized in the overall design.
The front is nothing earth shattering. It's a Jaguar sedan face. And that's fine.

It still needs a Leaper, IMHO.
