I Ticked Off My BMW Dealer...

So, the Sales Manager is trying to sell me a new BMW. I told him that since they pulled out of the NAIAS in Detroit, they must not care about me. Therefore, I no longer care about them. Man, he wrote a really detailed reply. I'll find it and post it here.

Looking forward to seeing your detailed reply jry!

How's the F02 740i treating you these days? Has it been relatively trouble-free?

You probably recklessly damaged his self-exteem (sic), perhaps beyond all repair!
He's probably tucked away in a Bimmahphile Safe Space now, sucking his thumb and writing mean things about you.

Yeah, can't wait to read this!! Luckily we haven't had any problems with our dealers. Of course not presenting in Detroit is fairly irrelevant for the rest of us around the country.

I would just tell your dealer since they are no-longer spending 10 million on the auto show, he can knock another $5,000 off the price of your next ride, you can bet BMW is giving them some sort of replacement sales/marketing funds, or at least not billing them for auto show activities.

I could not believe Cadillac, BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar and Land Rover were among the brands that could not be bothered to have a presence at the Atlanta show. Instead, we got a massive RV display. Lincoln, Lexus, Acura, Infiniti, Alfa and Audi were there. I think a Porsche dealer had cars there as well. LAME! The Atlanta show used to be decent.

I can't wait to read your dealer's response.

Mercedes-Benz was missing from Atlanta Auto Show? They just opened their new U.S. sales and marketing HQ near Atlanta in Sandy Springs, Georgia the week before the show!

You think THAT's bad? At the massive Toledo Interstellar Auto Show and Lemonaid Sale this year, both Hyundai and KIA were AWOL! Can you believe that?

You are correct. I live very close to the new HQ and even closer to the temporary HQ.

Which dealer? I'd like to demand that they pass on the savings to me for future services.

    Currently, I prefer Erhard.

Auto shows are all but over. I imagine part of it is the way you can virtually view cars over the web instead of needing to physically be present. I still usually go to shows, but the participation level by all makes has plummeted.. Part of the experience for me is the feel of the surfaces and the smell of the leathers.

I love going to the shows. You can look at as many pictures as you'd like, but there's no substitute for actually kicking the tires and poking around the inside of an actual vehicle.

Appears the bloom is off the rose; and it aint just Detroit...............

These shows have become very expensive for the OEM's, they all participate because the other companies do, it is a form of peer pressure, once the genie is out of the bottle, it's all done. We have a big show that consumes a week+ in Las Vegas (SEMA/AAPEX) we get 95% of our "work" done the 4 days BEFORE the show, we keep our booth because all of our competitors go, if we lost our seniority, we'd end up in the basement; but if a couple of the big-dogs bailed, it would be a completely different story.

I think this is the same sort of thing that happened to NASCAR, everybody kept re-upping their annual seats, for risk of losing them, once 2008/2009 happened the urgency to keep you tickets/seats, was gone, because if you want to go, just buy some seats, plenty available..........

It's not that people don't want to go or don't go; the 2018 NAIAS beat 2017 attendance by 50,000 (broke 800K) the show has remained very strong, it is the burden (financial) on the OEM's.
