Facelifted 2016 Porsche 911 revealed by strong winds

Strong winds in Stuttgart, Germany, have literally taken the wraps off of the facelifted 2016 Porsche 911 about a month ahead of its scheduled debut.

Local media outlets report that Porsche asked a British company to build a 65-foot tall sculpture in front of its museum in Zuffenhausen, Germany, to showcase the 2016 911, a 1981 model and a relatively early model built in 1970. Porsche forgot to check the weather, and winds blew the covers off of the 2016 model, giving us an early look at it.

Visually, the most striking update for 2016 is the addition of a new deck lid with vertical slats. Other exterior changes are discreet at best and largely limited to new LED daytime running lights, new-look tail lamps, redesigned door handles and model-specific bumpers on both ends.

Inside, select 2016 911 models are expected to gain the 918 Spyder's three-spoke multi-function steering wheel and a bigger, more user-friendly touch screen on the center console. The screen will come standard, but the 918-sourced wheel will likely be available either as a standalone option or as part of the optional Sport Chrono package.

Although full technical details are not available yet, Porsche has previously confirmed that nearly every naturally-aspirated 911 will be fitted with a turbocharged engine, a move that will considerably lower the Stuttgart-based automaker's fleet-wide CO2 emissions. The downsized turbocharged engines will be more powerful than the outgoing naturally-aspirated units.

Stay tuned, we'll bring you live images of the 2016 Porsche 911 straight from the show floor in Frankfurt starting on September 15th.

Pretty funny. However, they probably could've parked it undisguised in front of my house and I wouldn't have noticed it was revised.....

Nothing's going to change on the 2016 version compared to the 2015 version, typical Porsche design. No need to cover it up, really.

That's the beauty of Porsche. They don't have to make huge changes.

    Oh great, a 911 thread.

Lather, rinse, repeat. Breaking news: the 911 still looks like a 911. It always has and always will. If you come here expecting something else, the joke is on you, not Porsche. They've given us ample time to come to grips with this automotive fact. I take comfort in this, actually...

But why was the cabin door locked? And did you ever consider that the dress was designed to change colours? Who knows, maybe the birth certificate is fake! Ah-ha!

Wait, what are we talking about?

Everyone knows it's fake because he's really a shapeshifting reptilian and the door was locked to ensure the fulfillment of a Masonic blood sacrifice.

Why are you even asking these ridiculous questions?
