    Everybody's buying Porsche Macans

Jalopnik-You there! Did you buy a Porsche Macan in April? Hey, there’s a solid chance the answer to that is “yes.” Last month, the German maker of sports cars and luxury SUVs had its best sales month ever in America, and it’s all thanks to their new small crossover.

Business Insider noticed that Porsche’s sales hit 5,217 in April, up 28 percent year-over-year, the most cars they’ve ever sold in a month in this country. And it’s all largely thanks to one vehicle, the Macan, their entry-level small crossover.

It’s also the best sales month for the Macan since its release last fall. How popular are Porsche SUVs these days? As BI notes, “So far in 2015, 57% of the 16,647 vehicles Porsche sold have been either a Cayenne or a Macan.”

Makes sense. With a starting price of $52,600 for the 340 horsepower Macan S, the crossover is one of Porsche’s least expensive vehicles, costing about as much as a base Boxster or Cayman. It’s already proven to be a sharp performer, too.

And I’ll give it this — it’s probably the best-looking crossover in its class. Come on, what small luxury SUV looks better than the Macan? Maybe the Audi Q5, but I think the Porsche has it beat. Crossovers aren’t exactly known for their beauty, but the Macan’s design is on point.

As we all know, Porsche purists went apoplectic years ago with the release of the Cayenne, but it’s shown itself to be fast, capable, and selling in such huge numbers that it pays for Porsche to build the insane sports cars enthusiasts love. Here’s hoping the Macan will do the same.

Not a fan of CUVs, but Cadillac needs to make what sells. Not only the Macan but the BMW X1 is popping up everywhere

Macan is ultrasexy, and that's the only reason I can forgive it for being a FWD Porsche.

Sfbreh, Macan has a rear bias AWD system. You should know that.

I'd take a Macan in a heartbeat. Or a performance oriented Evoque...

I have to say that the interior (dash and console specifically) is spectacular. It just reeks of money and quality. However $100,000+ for a well optioned Macan Turbo is out and out gouging imo.

They've popped up all over the place here. Someone 2 garages down from me has one.

They're pretty awesome, but they're still lifted. Humbug.

That's the part GM would leave out lol. Caddy needs a true performing equivalent that's why part of me wishes all the SUV and CUVs were RWD/AWD.

Agreed. You know were the money is going, it holds true on all The current Porsches.

It's an electronic 4WD system, more similar to the 911 system rather than the Cayenne system.
And it has a RWD bias

People need to remember that the Macan shares only 30% of materials with Q5. It's longer, lower, and wider than Q5.
It's very much a unique animal.

Cimarron also blew massive horsedong and was barely not a Chevy, while Macan has been pretty universally praised and you really CANNOT tell it's a Q5.

Platform sharing at its worst and finest.

So are most quattros, but what's right for Audi isn't right for Porsche. Porsche clearly knew this though, and made a zupa zexy crossover with a 6 month waiting list.

Plus, you know I'm just breaking balls.

Porsche honestly makes some of the best stuff on the market. It's definitely the "gentleman's sports car" brand. Ferrari/Lamborghini are way too flamboyant, McLaren is too nouveau riche.

I still like them all, but Porsche is probably my favorite. First among equals.
