Cost to own and drive a Ferrari

This really makes the Corvette Z06 a great bargain. This just goes to show that for people who love their car - they will not complain and will keep paying high ownership costs.

This is just unbelievable - read the link to the original article and the reader comments in autoblog - very humorous.

Shocking. I think I'll just save up for a Porsche then.

I'd still buy one, but selling it is doubtful, so I doubt I would have a loss, but repairs aren't so bad. Then again, it kind of sounds as if it may have been a lemon. I doubt they all cost that much to repair.

Even if I were rich enough that money was no object, I would be pissed at what a POS that car is.

But the article doesn't give enough information on the car. Honestly there is no way to tell its accuracy. I still tend to believe that one car was riddled with problems or the driver had no idea what he was doing.

When I get into Ferrari vs Corvette argument I always try to explain that the Corvette is better because it’s a real car. Ferrari are not real cars they are show pieces and nothing more. They are the type of car you buy to drive to parties to show everyone how much money you have.

I’m guessing you’ve never spent any time reading Ferrari forums. Go there and ask if Ferraris make good daily drivers and they will tell you that buying a Ferrari for daily driver would be stupid.

No you are right, I don't read Ferrari forums, nor do I know much about maintance. But when I come to a point where I will be choosing between a Ferrari or any other exotic I will have a look at it. Maybe we should compare this to Lamborghinis.

From what I've read they are just as bad.

As far as I know the Ford GT and Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren are the only supercars that can be called reliable.

The ZO6 Corvette is also reliable, but I left it out because it’s not a supercars.

Probably the most appropriate comparison would be a high end Porsche 911. For half the initial cost you get similar performance, daily drive-ability, much better reliability and much better gas mileage.

This reminds me of a piece that Jay Leno did in Popular Mechanics a few years ago about Porsche and the way they make cars. While Lambos and Ferraris have parts that are designed to be replaced every 10,000 miles, Porsches of the same price and breeding are built to last.

Finally, I understand that the costs are relative, but the 40,000 miles that I've put on my Ford Focus have resulted in a mere fraction of the mechanical problems seen on that 550; and I wring every last drop of performance I can get out of that car on a regular basis. I don't even consider a Focus a reliable car, but it has held up infinitely better than that Ferrari.

As one former owner of S/N 111317 put it, "I spend more than that on crap on eBay every year."
HAHAHA. I loathe that person just for making that statement, but I have to admit it's pretty funny.

I don't care how much money I had, I would just be happy with a Z06, much more bang for the buck.
