BMW.... Has They Ever Done This Before

BMW is putting 1500 bucks on the hoods of their 5 series sedans.

Has this ever happened before? I was surprised to see this, they must be choking in inventory.
    85 cars since 1975....
    Good night and good luck.

The 5 is a fine car, but the real image car for BMW is the 3. They sell way more 3s than 5s and 7s. Maybe this is recognition that it is over-priced?

Nah, it's just that the new 5er is an overpriced POS that isn't worth half of what they're charging.

Right, and according to you the Pontiac G6 was "wasn't bad at all".

The 5er is selling quite well, but I'm guessing they want to really take on Mercedes with the E-class in sales volume.

It could have something to do with no F30 generation 335 availability. Pricing a 335 xdrive the way I would want puts it within $5 grand of a 535 xdrive optioned similarly. As for it being a POS? Yeah, ok.

It wasn't, and I'll continue to support that. It was simply "neglected".

Perhaps "POS" was too rough, but compared to the excellence of the older one, it really is a POS in comparison. I think they took a big leap backwards in the new 5er.

I understand that a site like this attracts more performance oriented individuals, but I believe that their move away from a "slightly larger M3" and towards luxury with the 5 series was smart. I had no interest in the last generation 5, unlike the current one. Actually, I couldn't stand it. 0.02.

BMW does it all the time. They usually just hide it as factory to dealer incentives instead of calling it a direct rebate. I think at one time they had like six or seven thousand on the 7-Series.

I guess I'm the exact opposite of you. I really liked the old one, but am not a fan of the new one at all. The only thing I like better in the new one is the interior.

I wasn't aware of that. Thanks for sharing. I'll be sure to tell my cousin, as he's in the market for a 3 series.

Yep. Ive seen friends get huge discounts on bmw's toward the end of the year or on old models.
Usually it is dealer cash back.

Re: BMW.... Has They Ever Done This Before

Keep in mind that over the past 8 months or so, the Dollar has gained something like 8% (vs. the Euro). If BMW is now giving you a 2% discount on a $60k 5-series, it's easy to see where that leaves them...

Oh come on, that's going pretty far. The 5-Series was at least competitive, the G6 was not.

Back in 2005 when it debuted it was. It wasn't that bad of a car.
