Alfa Romeo 159 - The most Beautiful sedan in the world.

Alfa Romeo 159 - The best looking sedan in the world.
    source: http://www.italiaspeed.com

The all-new Alfa Romeo 159 has beaten the new BMW Three Series to take the title of the most beautiful sports sedan in the world in the annual 'L'Automobile più Bella del Mondo' awards presented by a jury of leading artists, car designers, architects and stylists.

The Alfa Romeo 159 is the latest in a long line of beautiful cars produced by Alfa Romeo that have stirred the soul as well as the heart. It is both a natural progression of the styling motifs that produced such acclaim for its processor, the Alfa 156, and it is also very much its own design and shape.

Longer and wider than the Alfa 156, the Alfa 159 has a more aggressive shape, broader shoulders, a more pronounced nose and is more of a traditional sedan than the enhanced coupe shape of the Alfa 156. Like its predecessor, the Alfa 159 is blessed with not just a superb overall shape, but also countless exquisite details to catch the eye and engage the mind.

Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro in collaboration with the Alfa Romeo Styling Centre, the essential, sober and clean lines are underlined by superb materials: quality fabrics, precious fine grain leather, aluminium that is cool to the touch and exquisite craftsmanship with the appeal of artisan handcrafted materials. It is this unique combination of classic styling, with modern influences and inspired application of materials that has lifted the Alfa Romeo 159 above its German rivals' cold and clinical approach that often confuses the quality of coolness with coldness.

Interior is ok, but I never could get used to the Alfa grille. For some reason the rear and rims say "Buick" to me...

I love that car. The design is nearly perfect. The front end is unmistakably Alfa and proportioned flawlessly.

THe rear is really nice too. The taillights look great. I always loved the almost slit look of them.

The interior is nicely done. The use of materials is excellent. The right combo of tan leather and black with metallic accents. Wonderful.

I would much rather have this than a homely Maserati Quattroporte.

Re: Alfa Romeo 159 - The most Beautiful sedan in the world.

They compared the Alfa 159 with the new BMW 3-Series? HA! There's no contest. The Alfa wins hands down!

The new 3-series E90 looks dreary. The previous BMW 3-Series E46 looked a lot better. However, the E46 started to age quickly after only 4 years of production.

The Alfa-Romeo 159 is a very good looking car. I saw one in Munich, Germany in september of this year - and it looked even better in the flesh, than in the pics. It was Black and with those same wheels as the one pictured above: HOT looking car!

Thing is though: Best looking saloon in the world? I'm not so sure about that one. Specially when compared to the Maserati Quattroporte or the "Coupe-Like" Mercedes-Benz CLS.

However, since Mercedes classifies the CLS as a "Four-door Coupé". So, I guess, the second best looking Sedan in the world must be the...new Jaguar XJ.

I'll have to disagree on the Quattroporte/159. In my opinion, the Maserati is much more attractive than the Alfa, even though the Alfa ain't a bad looker itself.

I love that car . I believe the engines are GM's ecotec 2.4 or the DOHC 3.6.
The Judges must have only judged the exterior, because the interior won't be winning any beauty contests in this decade.

Everytime I see that car....it shocks me at how good it really does look....interior is decently nice, but the exterior....WOW

It also depresses me knowing that this was built on the premium platform developed between FIAT and GM, and if it wasn't for GM wanting to cut costs(too expensive platform) the next 9-5 would of been built on this platform as well....

Alfa Romeo designs become old very quickly,I don't even mention how unreliable cars they are (I haven't heard it on TopGear ,I know it because my friends have Alfas)especially the suspensions are rubbish.
So if somebody wants to have a stylish sedan and change it after 2 years time 159 is perfect for him.

Sorry mate, no GM engines for the Alfa.

The engine choice for the Alfa Romeo 159:

    PETROL

    2.2 16V DOHC 4 Cylinder 185 Bhp - 169 ibs/ft of torque @ 4.500 rpm 90% of all this torque is already available at 2.000 rpm

    3.2 V6 DOHC 24V 260 Bhp - 237 ibs/ft of torque @ 4.500 rpm 90% of all this torque is already available at 2.000 rpm

    DIESEL

    1.9 16V DOHC 4 Cylinder Turbo-Diesel 150 Bhp - 232 ibs/ft of torque @ 2.000 rpm

    2.4 20V 5 Cylinder Turbo-Diesel 200 Bhp - 294 ibs/ft of torque @ 2.000 rpm

As far as I know, the Alfa Romeo 159 only share the 1.9 turbo diesel 16v 150 bhp engine, with the European GMs (Opel/Vauxhall and Saab).

Top Gear mentions all the time how unreliable Alfa Romeos are and yet they love them. Chiefly, because they are Stylish cars and partly because they offer great "feel good factor". If you want a car that makes you feel good, rather than what it can do - Alfas are a class in their own.

The BMW 3-series may be a great car, but the new one looks way too bland and the 3-series is too common in UK. That's why there is always, someone who prefer to buy an Alfa 147/156/159/166 GT rather than a Bimmer 3.

Problem is: Alfa Romeos tend to depreciate nearly 50% in a year, not to mention Alfa dealers in UK are stealers and...YES. They are unreliable cars. At least they look great while sitting on the hard-shoulder expecting for the Road Assistance don't they?
But, think with me: Just for the brief moment when everything works, Alfas are great cars to drive and to look at.

That said, you can't be a true car guy if you don't like Alfa Romeos. Just because they are Unreliable, doesn't mean they are bad cars. It's an Alfa Romeo thing. Toyotalists would never understand.

It is true that some Alfa's don't age well, but some do. I think this is one of them.

Of course they are not reliable. What Italian car is?

The Maserati has some really weird stuff going on with it's styling. I mean the interior is great, the drivetrain is phenomenal, but the design elements just don't work for me. Especially that late 80's Toronado roofline and headlights/grill that look like they came off of 2 totally different cars.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Toronado, but it's c-pillar on a Maserati is just plain strange.

I guess since the Alfa is so clean and aesthetically beautiful, it just jumps at me as the better looking car.

For driving purposes, I would take the Maserati most definitely.

Sorry, I'm not seeing it. It looks quite homogeneous and modern in design while paying homage to when cars were honestly styled. In person, it's a stunning car. But maybe that's just me.

In person it is a beautifully finished car. I loved sitting in it. I guess my issue with it is that there are a few parts of the design that remind me of other cars.

I will revise my opinion of the C-pillar. It looks more like that of a 95 Monte Carlo. It is almost as if Maserati built an very Italian version of a Buick.
