Think of it as a glorified sketch or rendering, designed to show exactly what the designer intended (intensity, clarity, reflections etc...) to come across in the surfaces.

Maybe touch up was the wrong word I'm not sure, but they have definitely gone under the PS.

VW uses very basic surfaces, you can easily predict all the intended reflections under ideal surroundings. Unfortunately the real world is not an ideal surrounding and those basic surfaces usually end up uninteresting or dull in your every day environments.

You must have two. One for when the other's in the shop.

Anyways, it's not VWs job to look like Audi. It's their job to offer a cheaper alternative. For all the people on here that complain on GM brands encroaching and with VW that'd be OK.
Hey, you gotta watch that man...He'll go coastal on ya

It seems you get the cheaper Euro Skoda Superb badged as a VW and with little modifications here and there in the States.

Wow - I really dislike the Skoda Superb - the front looks like a Chinese car (without a western partner).

Re: The 2015 Volkswagen Passat Looks Nice

I worked at a VW dealership for 6 months and you have two groups of people who drive VW's: the ones who love the brand and won't buy anything else, or the people who hated them and vowed never to buy one again. Usually, I spoke to the latter group.

FWIW, I drove a 2012 Passat around a few times and I thought it was a nice car, especially compared to the Jetta (which I also liked). It was more upscale and had a huge interior, but it was a bit dour inside (all black) and kind of expensive compared to other cars in the class. The Inline 5 sounded rough (as always) and I don't remember it being particularly well built.

I always loved the B5.5 and B6 Passat's, but they were both plagued with quality and electrical problems. I'll never own a VW due to what I saw first hand at the dealership.

    Easy, killer.

Audi is doing pretty well. There's no denying that. People don't buy ugly cars.

Clean to you and me is boring to someone else... too bad for them!

My sister has a Passat, not sure how old it is. It's held up surprisingly well. Not a great car, not a bad one. I like it.

Actually Europe gets a different car and different design. More upscale in my eyes. They also get the Wagon. We don't. This won't be sold here sorry.

We get the blander more bloated "American" passat.

Since the euro passat and the us passat are so close in dimension they should cancel the us passat and start building this in the us. I'd buy these over the bland us version.

Are you listening vw? Makes more sense to sell one car across several markets than different versions of the same car. China get yet a DIFFERENT version from the us or euro version.

What I'm thinking is that this is the next design for the Passat in the U.S. You guys are saying the next design will be even different from this one? It seems odd that they'd skip a redesign in the U.S. altogether.

Haven't driven a vw in a long while I guess....

You do know most vw engines are turbocharged?

Also the dsg transmission is just two manual transmissions with an auto selector. You do know it shifts faster than humanly possible? Most auto makers are switching to this style transmission.

I agree on the ride but then again most cars designed to appeal to the mass market ride soft.

The us and euro passats are two different cars on two different platforms despite their visual similarities.

Vw stated they want to switch all their cars to a new unified platform.

I would love for that to happen sooner rather than later but history shows vw cares very little for the American market (they offer SO MUCH MORE variety in Europe).

Most likely vw will do a modest refresh of the current us passat and we'll get the new platform by the next decade, just in time for it to be outdated.

If vw offered the euro passat here they would kill audi sales. And if they offered the euro Wagon game over.

At one point the passat was the same in both the us and Europe. The car was too small and to expensive for American tastes so they designed the passat we have here.

Now there are two versions. The smaller but nicer euro passat and the bland but cheap us version.

My hope is that vw brings this to the us so they can be the same car again but vw had proven they make poor choices when bringing designs to the us.

The rumor is that the redesigned tdi engines will at least come to the us.

VAG clearly think that the Skoda Superb is right for the US market - and can get away with badging it as a VW.

Most US-market VW engines are the soulless, gutless 2.5L I5.

That's an antique engine kept in production for the US market.
