    2014 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG could get a new V8 4.0-liter turbo

    From autocar.co.uk
Mercedes-Benz’s AMG performance off-shoot is planning to provide the successor to today’s naturally aspirated 6.2-litre V8 powered Mercedes C63 AMG with an all-new turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 powerplant – the same unit earmarked for the company’s upcoming Mercedes SLC sports car.

The new unit has been developed along modular lines and is said to share the same individual cylinder capacity, bore centre spacing and other specific details with the turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder earmarked for the Mercedes A45 AMG and Mercedes CLA45 AMG.

Insiders indicate the new unit, which is claimed to deliver over 450bhp in an initial state of tune but is said to be capable of pushing out up to 600bhp, will eventually replace the naturally aspirated 5.5-litre V8 used exclusively by the Mercedes SLK55 AMG, provid

It seems Mercedes will have a nice amount of V8 in their lineup.
    There is 4.7 l v8 NA, 4,7 TT, 5.5 NA, 5.5 TT, and now 4.0 l v8.
Most manufacturers are going with one V8 in their lineup of cars. Audi has 4.0 TT but with different tuning, BMW has 4.4, Jaguar also one engine ,but with 2-3 different tuning etc.
Are 3-4 different V8 for cars maybe too much now ?
Wouldn't two v8 and different tuning of those engines be enough?

Cue the bitching about the ATS-V with a TTV6 vs V8.

Good for Mercedes, but I think the marketability of a tri-turbo I6 trumps a turbo V8. Really hoping the TTV6 holds up against these two bad boys, especially the BMW engine. No idea how THAT shootout is going to end.

I like the displacement of the C63 one might say Bore Wars. I think they should shoehorn a potent Gen V in the ATS with a blower option I mean if one can be shoehorned into a Toyota 86 (think its the Scion FRS in your speak) It surely would fit in the ATS maybe it could be a V spec I am sure the chassis will cope with it Alpha was designed for V8's in mind YES?

I always wonder if GM ever considered to built a V8 which would share some details with ecotec I4 engine?
Like this new v8 form AMG is suppose to share details with their I4.

I think 1 V8 with various tunings would be the smartest move. It would also be the most cost efficient for companies. More V8's, sharing parts will help bring down costs.

    Jaguar is probably the best example. 1 V8... 4 models... 380HP, 470HP, 510HP, 550HP...

I don't see why Cadillac couldn't do that.

Cadillac does with the LSA. GM doesn't because they sell trucks

GM has one V-8 and with 14 different variants, that beats Mercedes and jaguar combined in that regard......
