Looks like its visually confirmed that the next M3 will be a turbo 6 cylinder.

ATS-V developers, meet your new benchmark. The car looks really stiff, and I know its a prototype but that engine bay would be just a nightmare to work on for anyone probably.

It's sounds OK ............. If you like the sound of a driver sitting on a Whoopie Cushion.

    Why can't they just make a 3.5L I-6 that produces 400BHP (114BHP/L) that wouldn't even be a challenge.

I think, this would be much more in the character of the BMW M3 then the V-8 was and also the turbo I-6 is even further......

I agree, and it would also maintain the former M Ethos of high revs, and natural aspiration. With that being said the N55 based 3.0 will shade the upcoming ATS 3.6 TT engine on specific output as well as NVH most likely. The ATS-V should have received a Corvette spec Gen V DI V8 in order for it to truly take the fight to the M3 on all levels.
I want a car so violent that the mere thought of full throttle would cause a heart attack. That actually going wide open throttle in would result in nothing less than instant death!
