Exclusive: Fiat, PSA merger hits EU roadblock, may need concessions - sources

I saw that article from Reuters via a post on Allpar forums. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-f...-idUSKBN23F12U

Some are worried then the merge of FCA and PSA will give them a huge market share of the commercial van market. There's also some French articles about it.

Owned by the Agnelli family but a separate branch to FCA, it's controlled by CNH Industrial N.V.

Individually, PSA and FCA already had big market shares of the commercial van market - the Sevel factory building Peugeot Boxer /Fiat Ducato was a joint venture going back to the '70s.

This smells like Renault is using it's French government share holding to muddy the regulatory waters having lost their joint venture with Opel/Vauxhall which built Renault Traffic and Opel/Vauxhall Vivaro panel vans.

It smells not only like Renault but it also smells VW and Dailmer and weird they don't complain about the VW-Ford alliance....for now.

JVs are usually not under EU scrutiny. But when it comes to things like this usually French or Germans are behind it.

Speaking about merger setback we now know it's about small vans. We are talking now about one but about 3 if not 4 different segments.
    1. The smallest one was build by Tofas JV in Turkey based on FCA Small platform. Fiat Qubo and Fiorino were built next to a PSA siblings. PSA had left this market completely in 2017.
    2. The second slightly bigger were FCA has Fiat Doblo known as Ram ProMaster City in US. It's also build by Tofas on Small. The next generation should be on Small Wide and produced by Tofas. PSA products in this segment are on EMP2 platform including Opel Combo which in the previous generation was badge engineered Fiat Doblo.
    3. The next segment was the one were Fiat didn't have particular interest. In the past there was a JV called Sevel Nord which was run by PSA. Few years ago FCA had left it and is now selling engineered Renault. PSA is still using this factory for the new generation of vans built on EMP2 platform.
    4. The fourth product line is built by Sevel Sud. This are FCA engineered vehicles and is known in US as Ram ProMaster. This JV between FCA and PSA is still in place.

It's important to know that LCV market is very lucrative in Europe with very high margin in comparison to most of passenger cars in Europe.

I believe the LCV market is a BIT like our "pickup" market heavy in loyalty and repeat buyers
